    Whole Cloth Quilt

I'm working on a white whole cloth quilt...What color thread should I use? I'm leaning toward a neutral (non-white) color. I don't want the stitches to jump out at me, but I would like to see them. Any thoughts? Thanx!

i'm all for purple or orange.
If you want something to stand out but not scream at you get several neutral colors including a pale yellow and see how you like them on the white. Do a small sampler of each so you really get a feel then pick the one you like the very best.

    happy quilting!

I just took a class with Renae Haddadin and one of her samples shows what a difference thread color can make on a quilt. These two photos show the front and the back of the SAME quilt sample! Obviously, thread color is important, and I strongly suggest you actually stitch some samples before you make your final decision!

Have you considered using a grey or light blue thread?

Light blue sounds really nice.....I think Margo has the right idea about sampling different threads before you start the quilting. You need to decide on the look that you want, too. I'm using the King Tut variegated thread to quilt some areas around my feathered star block (2009 BOM) that are just a solid beige fabric. The thread is in Autumn colors and I'm really thrilled with the look it gives the quilting. Traditionally, white or natural threads were used on whole cloth quilts and the shadows from light playing off of the quilt emphasized the quilting--but who's traditional anymore?

Y'all are awesome. As always! Auditioning different colors is the way to go. I'm kinda pushing myself with this little project-even restarted it once, and did some serious un-sewing. Very out of character! I'll do some little sample sandwiches with different colors.
            Thanx so much!

The effect of your thread work is exquisite.

Sherry I just quilted a mostly white quilt with a Hemmngworth 'Whisper Pink' thread and it was perfect. The white on white would have been impossible to see but just the slighted hint of colour made all the difference. Also, the Hemmingworth threads have a lovely sheen so they give it an extra ping! Good luck with it. Hope you post some photos.

Margo, did you do that exquisite stitchery or was that one of Renae's samples?

I can assure you that I didn't stitch that sample!!
Renae's work is fabulous and I was so amazed at how much the color of the fabric affected the look of the finished piece!
