    Using leftover thread pieces

I saw a lady at the Annapolis, MD Quilt show doing a demonstration of making texture from leftover bits of threads. It was really neat, and I remember that there was at least one piece of washaway stabilizer, but that's all I remember. Does this this technique ring a bell with anyone? If so, do you remember how to do this?

    Hi Susan -

I've never done it myself, but I've seen it several times on different videos. You basically sandwich your threads in wash-away stabilizer then quilt it heavily to hold the threads together. I think I've seen some where then quilt a grid first, then do other quilting to catch all of the threads, but I don't think that's necessary. You can also throw in fabrics scraps and pretty much anything else that your sewing machine can sew through.

I think the technique you are talking about was done by Sally Dutko in Episode 302. Rita.

There is a video on the Superior Threads website where Dr. Bob's son does something like that to make a guitar shaped fiber art piece.
