    help! please! type of quilting

Hi I am quilting hands on my challenge quilt. and I did the running stitch. Not a quilting stitch with the little spaces between, but a stitch that looks like an outline stitch. Is that ok? or is that not quilting? I want the hands to be seen, but not over power the design. I'm thinking I like the running/outline stitch. what do you think?

Joan, if you stitched through all three layers, you're quilting. It sounds like you're doing something like Big Stitch or Utility quilting and that's perfectly fine. For some projects, it is the perfect touch.

I'm eager to see your entry.

Thanks Barbara, yes the hands do look pretty good! My thread is the right color red, but it keeps fraying! It is 50 weight, so tomorrow I'll run down to the quilt store and hope I can find something better. It is 100% cotton by Robinson Anton(?) I think.. Maybe I need a 40 weight?
      Thanks

You should try a heavier thread or use perle cotton embroidery thread. Also, you will need to use an embroidery needle instead of the regular quilting needle. Using the right tools for a project will make a world of difference.
