feed dogs aren't grabbing the pieces of fabric at the...

beginning of the seam. Does anybody know what is happening? Does this happen to you? Jan

    1. Switch to a single needle throat plate (with only one small circular hole instead of an oval one which accommodates zig zag stitch).

    2. As you begin to sew, hold your thread tails with your left hand.

    3. Start sewing at a square corner instead of the tip of a triangle.

    4. Fold a small piece of scrap fabric and start sewing on that, then chain piece your quilt pieces after that.

    5. Take your machine in and see if there is something wrong.1

this may seem silly, but I have done this. Did you put your feed dogs down for free motion and forget to re-engage them????

Also sometimes if you are using a 1/4 foot, it doesn't completely line up with the feedogs and there might not be quite enough material to grab.

      Just a few ideas.

try starting on a scrap of paper w/ the fabric on top of it, a half-inch or so away from the starting edge. Then you can just rip the paper off like you would with paper-piecing.
