Has anyone tried Shades of Soft Fuse. I have and find that I like it better than Steam a Seam 2 lite.

      Try it

I'm a big fan of Soft Fuse by Shades Textiles. It performs well, good adherence without stiffness. Only drawback is that it is available at fewer places. I bought mine at Paducah, but you can also order it through their website.

You might try asking your LQS, mine happened to carry it (The Wooden Gate in Danville, CA)

Hi Love2quilt, I probably haven't a hope in hell of getting that product here in Ireland but I am wondering is it tacky like Steam-a-Seam? It is one of the things I really prefer because you can kind of position the pieces where you want them to go before fusing in place.

I know one store here in town that sells it for $6.99 a pack and then they wonder why no one buys it from them...they finally decided not to carry it recently because they could not compete with Joann... but I can understand when it goes overseas, you're dealing with shipping costs, overhead costs may be different, duty/customs, etcetera so I would expect the price to be higher in Europe, for example.
You must be kidding! In Canada--which is NOT overseas!--it sells for $8 or more per package. I live two hours away from the factory! Maybe I should get some next time I'm in the States (if and when it reappears).

                Hi Rita,

No, it isn't tacky. I just love the lightness of it even when pieces are on top of one another.

I recently bought Steam-a-seam 2 at my LQS by the yard. I do larger projects and like a roll rather than s rectangles pieced together.I I like Heat -n- Bond lite as well but it is stiffer and gums up my needle more than Steam-a-seam lite. I don't like Wonder Under because its hold is not consistent and it deteriorates quickly on the shelf.

Thank you so much for clearing up the confusion around Steam a Seam. It's been my 'go-to' for all my applique work and the stuff that's out there now is either all to heavy and stiff or just plain difficult to work with. I really hope they can find someone to produce the backing paper. It's strange that when googling the product it comes up as being available at JoAnn's, but when I search JoAnn's website, the only fusible available is Pellon…too stiff. Thanks again for your research on this.

Just wanted to let you know there is an update about Steam-a-Seam. While there is still no availability date, it appears there is light at the end of the tunnel. For details, you can read The Warm Company's update posted yesterday at http://warmcompany.com/sas-update.html.

For anyone who's interested (who wouldn't be? ), I just checked the Warm Company website and two days ago they had a new update:

For any of you who have purchased this product through Amazon in the past, I just wanted to let you know I contacted Amazon and referred them to the update as a "heads up" that the product will be in circulation again in case they were planning to make it available again.

The printer friendly benefit certainly got my attention!
