    Special binding

I saw the 2013 BOM when I attended the TQS taping yesterday. John Anderson pointed out a special embellishment on the binding. The stripes on the binding were created with specialty stitches on the fabric. Now THAT is attention to detail!

I think I remember Pat Holly talking about that in her TQS episode. She also does that on the background fabric for some of her applique. Very cool! (Good seeing you yesterday!!)

Here's an interesting quote from Sue and Pat's "Raw Edge Appliqué" book: "Embellishing fabric takes a bit of time, so you may want to reserve this technique for your smaller projects."

Here's a photo of the binding on the original quilt:

Sure looks to me like a lot of time would be involved in the embellishment!

          Margo,

Thanks for posting a photo of the binding.

          Nancy,

I hope that the snow wasn't too bad for your trip home.

            Hi Diane -

Luckily, the drive home was completely clear. Even had a moose trotting next to me for a little bit of the way! Too bad it was too dark to see him very clearly! I think moose are incredibly majestic!

I, too, was at the taping and saw this fabulous quilt. I was also impressed with how soft and
pliable the quilt is. With all of the quilting, I'd expected the quilt to be a little stiff and it is
not. I've not paid close attention to the instructions as I'm not making this BOM; what kind of
              batting was used? It's wonderful!

I do like that binding. I think I'll have to use that idea on some of my quilts. I had thought I would make the BOM this year, but got too incredibly busy with other projects, but I have saved all the patterns. The binding though seems good for lots of types of quilts. Thanks Margo for showing us the close in picture.

Judy, I was able to learn that Sue Nickels always uses Hobb's Heirloom (80 % cotton/20 % poly) batting.
