Is the first cut supposed to be made on the wrong side of the fabric - looks like it from the photos - doesn't say it in the directions. Except says to make sure the turquoise is facing right side up. Anyone already cut?

Kellyls, you just need to make sure that the angle of the cut matches the angle in photo 4 with the right side of the fabric facing up.
The directions say to cut with the 18" side facing you, but I am right handed, and to make the cut at that angle, I had to work with the 42" side of the fabric closest to me.
Photo 5 also shows the right side of the fabric facing up.
Photos 7,8 and 9 show the wrong side of the fabric facing up so the angle looks backward.

The instructions say to cut 2 - 18" x width of fabric of both the orange and turquoise dot fabric. Does this mean I need two pieces 18" X 45" or 2 pieces 18" X 22.5". The only reason I ask is that there isn't enough of the Turquoise dot fabric to cut 2 18" X 45". After washing it and straightening for cutting it I'm about 2 " short. I bought the kit.

Thanks for your answer. I figured it out. Looks like everything needs to be right side up for the first 2 cut pieces.

        Thought you were paper piecing?

Donna, I have checked with Alex and we will get back to you ASAP! Sorry for the trouble!
You will need 2 pieces of each fabric 18" x WOF and because of shrinkage when fabric is washed, we loose some yardage.
Go ahead and piece what you can with the fabric you have available and let us know how much you are short.

Kelly, I did paper piece mine, but did the first set according to the written instructions to see how it worked.

This old dog was trying a new trick!

Looks like I will be short as well. How disappointing. Is this going to happen through the project?

Hey Everyone - First off, we at ARJJ consider you all family and appreciate your willingness to play and hang out at TQS. We are super aware that there are some issues going on and I want to personally reassure you that we will take care of things. I also know that some folks are opting to paper piece the triangle pieces using the bottom template and if that is the case we will have additional fabric available. I would suggest that you just keep sitichin away and as soon as we figure out the logistics we will let you know. In addition as you discover challenges or solutions please post them here for all to see. Personally I am I love with this quilt. Thanks everyone - you are the best!

I just ironed my prewashed fabric from the kit and I also have had some shrinkage and am a little short, but feel reassured that TQS is aware of this issue. (Thanks Margo and Alex). I want to say that I am still super enthused about this quilt. The fabrics in the kit are even prettier and brighter than the photo and I choose to do the kit because the colors are not my "norm" and yet the quilt feels traditional to me. I'm sure everthing will get worked out with the kits and I'm cutting mine up some of mine right now!

After reading everyone's posts, I think I will not prewash my fabric. I got my kit today in the mail and hope to start on it this next week.

Fortunately all the fabrics are available - we will be sending out supplemental kits to makeup for any shortage - there will also be enough to paper piece if you so want. It is going to take a little time to get it all together - but we have your back! IMPORTANT: Do not toss any scraps away - they will be used for the applique
