Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I am pleased with it so far and will have to see how it goes from here myself. I don't have all fabric selected yet so will have to pull from my stash as I go along. This really did take quite a bit of tim, but I am enjoying it.

Lori, Your color choices are tempting me to join the fray. Not that I would do red white and black but that I am beginning to see the pattern in choices of my own. I want to do so much, like try out the technique from this weeks TQS show. The ideas don't stop multiplying.

I'm actually enjoying this, now that I kind of know what I'm doing. The thread cutter in my sewing machine is a big help and I don't use a starty- stoppy, Audio books are a must. I'm almost at the end of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving which, along with outrageous religious and political commentary about the 60's, has me belly-laughing. 49 pins in 16 1/2 inches...holy cow! And I thought this month was going to be EASY after the paper piecing was done! :roll: Oh well, keep on truckin'! :lol:

It IS easy (once you made one)... but it's so long!!!!
Just thinking that next month, we'll be piecing 36 New York Beauty, each with 9 triangles...that adds up to 324 triangles...less than month 2, but it still sounds like another chunk of life paper-piecing!

I used the freezer paper technique, and enjoyed it, even though it is a bit slow. Pinning the paper pieced strips to the center strips is a whole other animal. One pin on either side of the "hanging" pin, then an extra one to keep the forward-facing seam allowance from flipping back, since it's on the bottom. OMG, I'll take paper-piecing any day over trying to get strip sets to come out right. I thought I had my 1/4" nailed. One thread off. I've been saying a lot of bad words tonight, but finally got the first set to 8 1/2 inches. I'm not even attempting the other one until tomorrow.Originally posted by gynconnie

By the way, that seam destroyer takes chunks out of fabric if we're not careful.

Susan, I found the strip sets surprisingly difficult to get right as well. I don't think I've ever used one with 16 pieces before...not much margin for error!
Sorry about your seam destroyer mishap...I had the advantage of buying it in person from a great vendor at a quilt event. The live demo really helped to keep me out of trouble!

I will second Susans comment about the seam destroyer taking bits of fabric out. Apparently there was a moment I got to aggressive :shock: Oh well it happens. Lesson learnedComment
