A question for you experienced quilters...

When do I remove the paper foundation from my sashings?

They look great Elaine! I like to remove my papers before I sew the assembled units to the center gold strip, but if you are using paper on the center gold strip to make sure that the points are exactly opposite each other, you no longer need the paper and it can be removed now.

Just remember that every seam you add makes smaller bits of paper to be removed, so I take mine off as soon as it is no longer needed for accurate piecing. Some people like the extra stability and leave it on longer. Your choice! Just do what works for you!

Oh yes, we can "shave" minutes off our piecing

I used glue stick. I tried with 1/4 inch steam-a-seam, but found it easier with glue stick. AND, with a long ruler, I made sure that the lines were 100% straight before the "final" press!
Still sewing... not finished yet. I figure I have at least another 5 hours of sewing the long sashing! And then choose the insertion fabric!

I just bought the Wahl seam ripper at a sewing expo yesterday. I just love ,love it. It Made quick work unsewing a whole row of pantograph sewing. Dixie

Re the Wahl Seam Destroyer: Some enterprising person should put the word Quilter on it, get a lime green casing, charge $30 and market it at Quilt Market and make a fortune. Not me, I just retired. (I said that already, didn't i? )

Edit: Dixie, did it say Wahl mustache and sideburn trimmer? How much was it? The curious want to know.

I used one staple on top and bottom to join the 2 paper pieces. Quick and they did not get in the way.

Some of you may know that I was able to attend the Ricky Tims' Super Seminar in Atlanta this week-end.

I learned of another way to do paper piecing!! Just use Ricky's Stable Stuff when you print the designs from the computer!
When the fabric is sewn on and the units trimmed, you DON'T NEED TO REMOVE THE PAPER!

Why didn't I think of that?? It's brilliant!

Dixie, I saw in your profile that you're from NC. Did you buy the seam destroyer at the show in Statesville yesterday?

Now if it would just match these needle-sharp points on either side of the center strip, we'd really be in business! :?

My assembled units are not perfect. My points are pretty good, but they don't all line up exactly opposite each other across the center bar.

For what it's worth, I just saw the original quilt at the Ricky Tims' Super Seminar in Atlanta!
