making it smaller?
I am not interested in making a large version of this quilt. Space does not permit it but I can make it SMALLER! Any suggestions on doing that from anyone? I'm in LOVE with their previous collaborative quilt that was the inspiration for this one. I can do something like that with this quilt. Need a few guidelines on sizes. Help!

Marilyn, I am thinking about making a wall size version by just making four "blocks" instead of nine. It will be something like this:
I will just have to play around with the placement of the border applique, but it should work out just fine.
I think there are some members who are thinking about making the whole quilt but reducing the scale of the pieces. Not sure how to do that.

Margo, that looks like the perfect size for a wall quilt. I won't be doing the BOM again this year. I still have 2011's to finish.
One way to reduce the size of the templates is to print at 50% or whatever percentage you choose. Every printer is different, but for mine I would go to File - Print - Properties - Page Layout - Reduce/Enlarge Document - By Percentage. That only works for templates though, and keep in mind it also reduces seam allowances. If some of the sections just have cutting dimensions you would need to deduct the seam allowances, reduce to the percentage you want, then add back the seam allowances.
Another way would be to open the document in Photoshop at the percentage desired, then change the canvas size to 8-1/2" x 11". That's the way I did the 2012 BOM. With that method I could copy and paste to put more on a page.

Margo, that looks like a perfect size with the four blocks. I am thinking about it. I always think I'm going to make it, but then get just too stinkin' busy. Maybe I could do it with just the four blocks and border, especially if you work out all the adjustments for that.  I'm sure I'd learn a bunch.

It would be great if the BOM designers could include directions for both a full size and wall hanging size.
While I know it is too late for 2013, it should be something TQS could do in the future.
There are so many new techniques I would love to learn, but I do not have the time available to commit to a full size quilt I could do a wall hanging size.

I agree - that maybe next year TQS can present 2 sizes for the BOM. I'm still working on Stars for a New Day. But that's my fault, not TQS'. Well, I guess the truth be told - I am not working on it, but should be. There is always so much interesting stuff on here, colour classes, sampler quilts, embellishing lessons, and not to mention reading and commenting on the 'the forum" , I could easily spend more time just doing TQS 'homework', and chatting on the forum, and not ever get my own things done. Not complaining, though, because it's great to have a big selection to choose from, and I'm learning lots. And, I like the small-ish projects and lessons, as they can be a break from the big ones. Or, a quick quilting fix on the days when we don't have time to be working on the big stuff.

You and me both with Stars for a New Day, Terrie.
This year I followed reading everyone's comments about the BoM along avidly until about June, then I just ran out of steam for it. However I loved doing the Laura Nownes Sampler quilt with a set of blocks per week for 6 weeks. Trouble is I need to make up a few more tidgy ones for the outer border, and my 'Round Tuit' is playing up as usual, but I would like to get this one finished for competition, since I threatened to......
I am definitely 'grabbing' next year's BoM as I am particularly interested in the sashing pattern though (not so keen about applique yet)
