Becky, you could machine quilt the straight line, in the ditch stuff and then hand quilt your fancy stuff. Which is one of the things I am considering doing.

I have also considered going with a traditional all over pattern like Baptist fans for hand quilting.

I'm fairly new to quilting, so with this quilt, I'm going to send to a long-arm quilter. I figure with the time and energy spent making this quilt, I want to have a fabulous finish on it.

Thanks, everyone, for the ideas! that helps me out a lot.

Thanks to Sue for the quilting details.

I, too, would like to know if it is possible that some close up pictures of the quilting on the BOM could be posted??

There is one close up of the quilt in the Show And Tell, December section.

OK, now I can see the quilting close up.

I didn't even know I could pull up just "december" BOM pictures. I see that it was actually posted back in february, but under the December section. I never would have looked there. thanks for telling me about that.

Why not have a forum category where we can all help each other? Then those of us who've been quilting forever can talk directly to the newer people who need help. :? :?
Since I quilt on a longarm, I try not to do stitch in the ditch(SID). I don't believe every quilt needs it. A quilter working on a domestic machine may think differently, and a hand quilter might have an altogether out of the ordinary idea that doesn't resemble the other two.
Why don't we have an ongoing category for quilting ideas?

Close up photos of the 2009 block of the month quilt showing the quilting would be helpful. A smile box.

I would like to suggest that the fabric requirements for different size quilts be listed at the start instead of almost at the end. I would like to make a king size quilt, but finding the fabric now has been impossible. I bought TQS kit and would have purchased for a king size had it been offered.

If anyone knows where I can find the green floral fabric in the kit please let me know.

                        Hi Carrie,
I bought the kit too and have decided to make a king size quilt. I found the site Somewhere Sewing. She has some of the Red Roster fabrics "Canterbury" also the site Crafters Cottage has 3 of the fabrics. I bought my backing material at Paducah at the Eleanor Burns tent. You might also check her site. Good luck.

I have posted a picture of Sue's gorgeous quilted feathered star on the Show & Tell December BOM page. She doesn't have the quilt now, so maybe ARJJ will be able to take some more pictures of the quilting and post them.

In the meantime, there is LOTS of great information in show #509 "Machine Quilting Magic (Joanie Zeier Poole)"

                          Such inspiration!!

Thanks Paula, I will check out those places. I can find some of the fabric, just not the one I want, the green floral with the large flowers. I have found a green floral with small flowers but I am not sure it will work.

                                CarrieLou,
I tried to find the large floral, green background print quite some time ago and had no success. I hope you can find it!

I agree about posting the fabric requirements for different size quilts at the beginning also. good idea.
