Border stars setting triangle colour choice

I had a look through the latest images in the BOM show and tell, and one quilt especially changed my mind as to which fabric to put for the inner triangles and which one for the outer one.

My fav layout is where you use the same fabric for the inner border star setting triangles that you used for the feathered star setting triangles.

I was initially going with my lighter fabric for the inner triangles and my darker one for the outer ones - the darker fabric is the one I used for my feathered star setting triangles. I was doing this because this seemed to fit with the original pattern.

Have a look through the show and tell images before you make your own fabric choice decisions. I really like how those inner borders seem to float in my fav layout. The other layouts look good - but they miss the punch that this layout has.

See if you can tell which quilt layout I am referring to. I think it's obvious - but I'll post whose quilt it is if no-one guesses.

Hi Karen ...Was it Dahlia lady (sp) or right now #2 from the left. Her choice of the dark color on both sides of the border stars is really the most outstanding one in my opinion. Nan in Massena, NY

At the time of your post, you must have been referring to the clhughey quilt.

It's interesting that I also looked through the show & tell images to see which look I preferred. I must say that I truly like all of them, but I do have my favorites. Yesterday, I was viewing the October entries with a friend and my favorites were her least favorites. So, isn't it wonderful that we can each do our own thing with this pattern.

Like you, I also changed my plans based on the the look that I preferred and the fabrics available to me. I was anxious to get going, but didn't have enough of my feathered star setting triangle fabric to use for setting my border stars. Besides that, I thought that the fabric I originally planned to use read too much as a solid.

For those of you who haven't gotten to this point yet, auditioning the fabrics is not quite the same as having the blocks all sewn together. I was lucky that mine turned out better to me than I expected. I just need to sew on the last two floaters and I'm finished for October. Hopefully, I'll get that done today.

      Happy quilting everyone.

Hmm, are you talking about "traveltheworld"?

I looked through the show and tell too, and went back to look at my border again. The triangles are sewn onto the blocks already. When I lined them up, with the spacer border fabric in between, it looked so much better than with all the white from the design wall showing.

Another fabric might be a better choice, but I think I will stick with what I have.

it's so fascinating to see what others have done. Here is where all our color choices in the past 8 months come together. I can honestly say that so far, I like all of them. Especially that redwork one! It's very pretty.

Ritzy guessed correctly - It was traveltheworld that inspired me to change my colour choices.

There are a LOT of the BOM quilts that I love just as much - if not more than this one - it was this part of the layout that just jumped out at me and said - WOW - change what you were going to do.

I havent finished sewing my borders yet. But I might take a couple of photos just to see if the differences between the two choices says the same thing to someone else.

My real favourite 2009 BOM quilt is mine - I just love it. The accuracy could be better - but from a few metres back - no-one can see the mistakes.

Check out my profile later and the photos should be there.
