ok, we just returned home from a weekend in Steubenville Ohio, where son #2 had his senior directing project on stage. We hit cold and snow on the PA turnpike and all over the place in Ohio! brrr, not sure these California bones are going to survive! But it was good to see him.
Now I have a dark blue multi (is that the term?) not solid, for the background, which I thought would be great for a whole quilt. But if I now do a block for each month, and turn it into wall hangings for each month, should I keep the blue background or just do colors for each month? I have to work from my stash, so I know I will not have enough of the same fabric to work a whole quilt! Besides, I think I will get it done if I think 12 small quilts!

I'm taking a short break from drawing our freezer paper pieces. I realize I need to take out my circle template!
The dark blue sounds rich. It will be beautiful and will show off the warm colors of flowers beautifully! Are you going to split the star blocks or will they all be in one wallhanging?

Hey, Deb in MN/WI - I'm one of those "annoying" BOMettes that has completed all 11 BOMs, but I want you to know I'm rooting for you! I love your enthusiasm, and there is no reason NOT to start a BOM and get involved! So I'm cheering you all on, as well. Also, I just had to tell you I KNOW WHERE HUDSON IS! Linda from northern Wisconsin (Bayfield).

Deb,
I just noticed you mentioned freezer paper, are you doing the needle turn applique?
I have taped together the design of November BOM and am looking at it like it or maybe it's me, is from outer space! How do I do this? do I just trace the whole thing onto fusible or do I do it piece by piece? The other appliques' I have done I have traced them piece by piece. This is one big picture and I am totally baffled! I chose material today, or started to, and now I thought I would sit and trace, but I don't know how to begin!
Help somebody!

Joan, what kind of applique are you going to do? Needle turn or fusible? Sue gives great step by step directions for fusible applique in the very first download. Then for needle turn she gives good monthly directions. Margo, as she mentioned earlier in this message trail, has posted step by step how to pictures on her website. If you go to her profile I am sure her link is there. I think she did the step by step for needleturn. I think someone else gave other directions for machine or fusible applique and they will probably chime in here soon.
Also one of the early shows, from first season maybe, gave instructions for take-away applique which was pretty cool.
But go look at Sue's instructions to get started or Margo's.
Good luck and have fun,
Lorna (completed 1-9, 11 and working on 10 now)

ok,I am going to do fusible, I have the fusible ready, I taped the four patterns together. now do I trace the whole pattern? then cut out the pieces bit by bit? I've done aplique, both ways, I've just never had an entire picture to work from usually just the separate pieces! maybe I'm confusing myself and thinking this is harder than it is!

I've got everything done.....printed that is.
The actual BOMs now number three. When I started I figured it was a two year project....now it's looking more like four LOL...but it's so lucious...now if it weren't for that pesky BOM for '09 posted, I'm sure I'd have the time to do this one.
Slow, but steady wins the race. I've just started on April and will try to have March posted sometime before ... oh say...the turn of the next century.
Definately on the slowwwwwww BOMette track.
Happy Thanksgiving wishes to everyone!

Hi Joan,
If you are doing fusible you want to leave a little extra around each piece and then cut on the line once it is fused to the fabric. That way you are less likely to have stray threads hanging out there and the edge will secure to you project while sewing it all down.
That means tracing each piece individually, not the whole pattern on to the fusible.
Hope that answers you question. Cheryl

YES! That's what I needed! Thank you! Although I have already traced the complete picture, I have realized that it is just not working out the way my other fusibles worked. I just couldn't get my head around this point! So I have been retracing and of course the fusible I have does have paper but only one side, so the whole block will be reversed! But it is my first attempt at following directions for appliques, instead of making one from scratch! So I will just muddle along on this one, and then see how my other BOMs turn out. I mostly quilt like I cook: I do my own thing and add or subtract what the "recipe" says! Which is driving my husband crazy today!!
Happy Thnkasgiving!

Will parchment paper work the same as freezer paper? I am out freezer paper and I have a lot of parchment paper. Besides I suck at applique. Maybe if I could feel my fingers and didn't shake it wouldn't be so bad or should I just go with fusible bond? You know give my blood a chance to recoop from the last quilt donation. I have decided on very dark blue fabric by the way. I covers stains really well. By the way sorry for the absence there were a lot of family issues this past couple weeks.

Hey, all of you buddy-seeking BOMettes! I just want to let you know that you CAN get this block of the month made. Be sure you print out all of the instructions before the end of the year, when it goes offline (you can still get it... but it won't be free!). Set small goals for yourself and stick to them -- a block a month or half a block a month... whatever works for you. I will still be around to answer questions if you have any, or cheer you on if that is what you need. This is a great quilt to learn on, and a web-based pattern allows for a LOT more detail in the instructions (and photos!). So... get busy! We want to see your finished quilts, one block at a time!
