    Backing

Anyone thought about backing yet? I was looking the other day at my little stack of (very few) remaining squares with the fabrics I've picked for the sashing & borders, and realized I'd better start thinking... I'm not one for subtle or plain, so I started nosing around fabric sites. Nothing struck yet, but just wondering where your heads are on this...

Since I am doing two sets of applique block of the month (but am seriously falling behind- got to get in gear), I have lots of decisions on backing. For my funky black and white on orange batik. I am doing a quilt as you go design and am using a black and white toile as the background. I plan to put them together as either three or four blocks in a set and use them for valances in the Texas (sun room to anyone else) room of our mobile. Too many windows no wall space. Quilts become drapes or valances all the time at my house. For the other set I am doing them as individual wall hangings (for 2009 Christmas gifts) don't anybody tell. And will use fabric that coordinates with either the vase or the flowers. (my vases are from a single series of fabrics so coordinating should work out well) I am also doing a small version in Brazilian and silk ribbon embroidery -nothing like being a glutton for punishment LOL- and that will be sashed with a dark color maybe even black and backed with a neutral. now I need to get off the computer and get to work. I was looking around at Hancock's on line for something and in the sale section I found a 108" hot air balloon fabric that is in the brown-and-white tones I'm using for my BOM. It was something like $4/yard so that's what I'm using!

Ruth, I have a very favorite art print that is a hot air balloon with two little rabbits in the basket titled "Hare Raising Experience" and for me all those little berries and circles have been a hair pulling experience so that fabric sounds perfect to me. But then I have a weird sense of humor so I have been told. Ann

Funny is funny--it's only weird to those who don't think it's funny! And the connections you made here are funny... I think I'd like the bunnies in the basket.

You know I just had an idea reading this thread. I would really like to put everyone's picture who's participated in making this BOM so fun on the back of mine. So if you don't have a profile pic, watch out I may come after you for a picture. This quilt is mine. I have no full size quilt that I've kept so making the back of this a little memory would be perfect for mine.

How about if I list all the screen names of the BOM SQUAD? Counting Sue Garman, there are 72 TQS members who have posted at least one block. If anyone else wants to be an official bomette, all you need to do is post one block!!

that is a wonderful idea, Margo, the BOM experience all in all has been a lot of fun (not withstanding my problems with circles) but we seem to all have worked around our problems. How fun it would be if all 72 could come to La Veta next year. But then I know that will never happen but it still will be fun. Ann (who is seriously behind right now)

Very unique idea Patti, however, I am not as close to this group as some of you and I prefer my picture NOT be used in anyone's quilt unless I am making it for my personal family members.

I think that if anyone wants to use everyone's picture they have to get the persons permission to do so. I would not like to have my picture used on quilts all over the place. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF EVERYONE'S FEELINGS AND WISHES. ( We keep wishing for people to post they picture on their profiles, so we can see who they are, and meet them, some people are not comfortable with their picture out for everyone to use.

Patti, I wouldn't mind--I think it's a cute idea! Of course, I've got to get mine posted so I can be "official." I'm working on July--gotta get in gear! LOL Florence, I've only thought as far as borders. Glad you mentioned it. I'm using batiks, so I guess I need to go with that. What about a backing with the screen names of all the people on the BOM Squad? Judy in Torrance

Also, in case anyone missed it, Bridget has made an awesome map showing where all the bomettes live!

                            Check out this web site!

                            http://www.photoshopshowcase.com/Vie...54351&AT=3

At the upper right corner there is a "slider". Move that down to zoom in on the map. You can move the map with "click and drag" to get to the area you want to check out. Then click on each pin to see a picture of who lives there! TOO COOL!!!

Linda, if you object to having your photo shown here, please drop a note to Bridget and ask her to remove it. I don't have access to that program. Thanks.

Patti, if you put my picture on you quilt (and it would be okay with me) please keep it against the wall so you don't frighten the kids. I had thought about a red back and haven't ruled it out but with the light front I don't want the back to show through. After Patti's idea I think I will use a light background and when we all meet in LaVeta, get signatures on the back.
