Florence, all your blocks are very pretty; I agree that you might want to have at least one more block with the bright pink in it. I'm also trying not to use the same fabrics, well at least for the flowers. I've decided to go ahead and use some of the same greens for the leaves. I'm also trying not to duplicate vase fabric. This project will definitely keep us using our imagination.

I've finally finished up my August BOM.... just in time for September to come out! I've used lots of beading in this block again and it adds sparkle. I also did a stem stich around the inset fabric on the vase with gold and it gives it that something special u can't really see in the pic. U can find my block in my blog at:

I have finally posted my August BOM in my profile and waiting for Sept 1. I outline everything with a single strand of floss this time (white for background star and black for everything else). It is very sutle but seems to add a finishing touch. Love everyones blocks.

Sandy, your block is absolutely lovely! I can see what you mean about the outlining. I was just reading an interview that Sue Garman gave, and she said to let the blocks speak to you as you look at them - sounds like that's what you did, and look at the results! Great!

Sandy, great block! The outlining does just add a special touch. I see your mariner's quilt was featured on the home page (or was it the newsletter)! How cool!

Maggie in E. Central Illinois, who just realized I mailed off a baby quilt without getting a picture of it. Rats! Now the new parents will have to send me a picture of it with the new baby! Darn  LOL!

Duffy, I love your work! And kudos on the inset in August's block - how perfect! And I noticed the rose fabric on the flowers on the July block. You sure do great work. Enjoyed looking at your works-in-progress, too. Ricky meets Laura is wonderful - they'll both be impressed!

I have a couple of questions. I would like to learn needle turn so thought I would try one of the BOM's. I have downloaded them. Is there any particular one that y'all though was a bit easier than another? I guess I will go with majority rule. Also, as a general rule did you use the same background for each block? I've looked at a lot of the pics that y'all have posted and they are so gorgeous and so very different. Thanks. Sandi in FL

Glad to have you join us, Sandi! Choosing your background fabric is a personal choice. Some of us have used the same or similiar fabrics, and those who purchased the original "kits" are using some of the same fabrics, but basically, anything goes. Choose something that makes your hear sing!
As for needle-turn, I don't know if you are aware, but I have posted some tutorial photos of my needleturn blocks, starting with January. The way I do it is obviously not the only way to make needle-turn blocks, but it works for me, and I've tried to include some different tips for each month. If you are new to the technique, start with album #1 and see if it helps. You will also find ALL of the BOM blocks that have been posted on TQS shown by the month! Maybe seeing them all together will help you decide on what kind of colors you want to work with. It's truly inspirational! You can also always access the web site from my profile page!
                          SEW LONG!!

IF I had to pick one that was easiest, I'd say February. Good luck and welcome!
Also re: backgrounds, there's at least one, maybe more that have been pieced for a really nice effect!
