Dana, don't you dare throw out that block!!! Turn it into a pillow or something. I just can't imagine you making anything that is really that ugly, but if it is you can always turn it around or sit on it when company comes  Seriously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and even if your friend thought it was ugly I'll bet someone out there will see that block and think it is wonderful. I'm with you on redoing the January block though. Mine is nearly finished but this one was meant to be a practice block just to learn on first. My fabric I ordered for this project came in a week ago so once I finish the practice block I will start February with the REAL fabrics. I think what I will do is either wait until the BOM is finished to redo the January block (that'll let me see how much I improved 8) ) or maybe if I catch back up I'll start it between other months projects. My "practice" block is destined to become a throw pillow for my couch.

Florence, I am definately in for a road trip. I was trying to keep up with the chat but I have company in town to celebrate my daughters 7th birthday. I just finished cutting out my pieces for the March block. Have a great day everyone.

I had a wonderful time in the chat last night and hope the Ricky and Alex will allow us to have a BOM Show and Tell in the fall of 2009.

If this does become a reality, we must find a hotel where we can all stay so that afterwards we can have a BOM party and I promise to have Cake for all the cake eaters and something else for those who do not partake of cake!

Imagine how much ruckus we could all start at a restaurant. I'm smiling now just thinking of all the chatter and laughing and being able to finally meet each of you for real.

I had my January block almost finished and my friend Camille came for a visit this week and she thought I was playing a joke on her. And as she was laughing very loudly and almost falling out of the chair, she said, "Dana, that is the ugliest thing I have ever seen, what were you thinking"? I could not believe she said that  And by now I was laughing too. Now, I had not really thought of it as ugly.........just different. She kept saying that she could not believe that I had spent all that time hand appliquing this block. I have to admit, it is a bit wild, maybe I'll put it on a blog someday, but in the end, I decided that I really could not do 12 blocks with that background.........so I'll just keep it as practice. It was sure worth all the hours of work on the block just to watch Camille.

So now I have started over, thank goodness, it's only March. I'm starting with February's block.......I can't stand the thought of appliqueing those stems and leaves for January again right now. I'm so excited about this project and at least somebody got some enjoyment out of my rejected block.

Okay you peeked my curiosity, I want to see this block. Please post when you are able. I can't imagine it being that bad.

I am sorry that I missed the chat, I am never able to get on the computer in the evening.

Where do I find the transcript?

To read any of the transcripts from chats, just click on "CHAT" on the purple bar. Then scroll down a little and click on the box that says "CHAT TRANSCRIPTS". Just click on the one you are interested in!
Yet another GREAT feature of this cool site!

I missed the chat, too, but read the transcript. It's really funny to read straight thru - Susan is asking for any applique questions out there, and the next thing I read is someone asking where to catch the bus! lol Anyway, I know I missed a good one, but I'm thankful for the transcript.
To read the transcript, go to Chat and scroll until you see the transcript button. Click on that, then look for Sue Garmen and BOM chat - it's right on top.
I would say road trip, too, with the rest of you - but who knows where I'll be Fall 2009! Could be Wisconsin, Arkansas, California... my DH heard me laughing about it, tho, and he's willing!
I think I'm starting my Jan block this week - finally got my supplies together. Had to buy thread, and wouldn't you know it - I picked up 4 spools of silk thread! But then I ordered some Essential thread from Connecting Threads for the rest of my colors. I'll have to see how that works.

I've been using the Essencial Thread from Connecting threads and it is working ok, but I think I need to find something thinner so the stitches sink in more. The colors blend well though, so unless you are looking for the threads you really don't see them badly - I'm just particular.

Wow!! After reading the chat transcript from last night it really makes me feel like I'm missing out. I wanted to start the BOM, but decided I didn't have the time and applique really wasn't my thing so I should just spend my time finishing all those projects I have started. I think the connection that this BOM has made on us is incredible. Maybe I should reconsider I'd hate to miss out on the get-to-gather in the Fall of 2009! Koye

Hi yall, I'm Camille, Dana's friend. In my defense Dana should post her block for a vote. LOL. All the fabrics are wonderful....except not together. It looks like she picked them out during a hormones gone wild menopausal tempest. I've had many days like that. Her work is impeccable and her colors are usually beautifully subdued like her rhapsody.......but, not that day. An alien total body transformation could also explain it. I am glad to report she is back to normal for the moment and making wise color choices.

I second Camille's suggestion that she post the block for a vote and no matter what the vote Dana don't you dare throw that block out or make it into a pillow to hide. Send it my way and I will display it with pride everywhere I go. It will go in the motor home in the summer and the mobile in the fall and I will tell everyone I have a famous friend who made it and they better not say a word. Ann who loves you and all your work and Camille, even in a Mental Pausal moment she couldn't make bad choices so I have dibs on that block. LOL
