I have used Roxanne's Glue-Baste It for years and am very pleased with it, but after watching Sharon Schamber's videos (thanks to a tip here on TQS!) I'm going to try Elmer's Washable School Glue. She uses a metal tip that is sold on her daughter's web site, but watch this video to make your own tip to draw a very fine line of glue! I'm definately going to try this!

And if you are interested, I just found this list of her other videos, some of which are not shown in the Free Area of her web site!
http://www.youtube.com/profile_video...ronSchamberNet
The "ladder stitch" has been mentioned on the forum, and several people have asked me about it. Sharon demonstrates it in this video.

Greetings. I am a passionate quilter, my favorite technique is needleturn applique. I will be working on the BOM and will be a little behind as I had not kept up with the site in a few months.
Sue Garman is an absolute great Designer. I am a self-taught quilter and learned how to do needleturn applique using Elly Sienkiewicz Baltimore Album Books on the way to Arizona in 2003 - I always seem to tackle the most difficult first. I will continue to keep up with the Blog, and if I can finish a block soon will post it. I am currently working on a qult that I have designed using Elly's Fluer-de-lies blocks and am naming it Chopin's Fluer-de-lies (I am a 6th generation niece of Frederic Chopin). I live in La Vernia, Texas, and we winter in Sierra Vista AZ. I bring my quilting with me and our 5th wheel is large enough that I can work on my projects while here. I look forward to belonging to the Blog.

Welcome Chopin!! I am excited that you will be doing the BOM with US!!
Lynn, That book really helped me!!
Margo!! With all of the EXCELLENT advice we have been given by everyone, I decided to try Sharon Schamber's applique method. And I have to tell you I LOVE IT!! I made a sample, used the foundation fabric, gluesticks (alot  ), I wanted to try machine applique, and I have to tell you it turned out WONDERFUL!!
Then I put it into the washing machine and dryer, and it came out just as I had dreamed it would!! I LOVE IT!! :!: :!:

Did you have to reverse the pattern? I have the stablizer.

P.S. I tried tonight to get into Suzanne Marshall's class that is this May in Vancouver, WA, but it was already full..... Bummer! That would have been a fun class.

Posting my BOM!
I went on a quilting retreat this weekend and finally finished my January block, cut out my Feb block (forgot to bring the backing for Feb) so am posting it (Jan).
I was able to glean from the experience of the other 8 retreaters as to what threads they have used to machine applique and to experiment as to what I (and my machine) liked, so that was a great experience!
I used Sharon Schamber's method, and ended up liking the YLI wonder invisible clear thread and the Superior clear invisible, and the Sew-Art invisible clear. I bought a spool of Gutterman invisible but it was so heavy it looked terrible. It must be that it is designed for a different application than invisible applique. I always thought that Gutterman was a good brand of thread, so I have to assume that is the case.
What do all of YOU use?

Hi Margo, I was able to view your needleturn pictures on Webshots by going to your profile. Thanks for taking the time to provide such a clear explanation for those of us who have never tried this technique. I believe with your pictures and instructions, even a beginner like myself should be able to do it. Thanks again

Thanks for the kudos, Ann!!
I realize that needleturn is not a technique that everyone will use for this project, but hope that my tutorial will encourage those who haven't done it before to give it a try.
I've also demonstrated making bias stems using the Clover Bias Tape Maker, and how to do the Stem Stitch like Suzanne Marshall showed on episode 203 in case anyone is interested.
Everyone just needs to find techniques that they enjoy and have fun with all their projects!
SEW LONG!
Margo

I really like using the YLI and SewArt "invisible" threads because they are both really soft and pliable and easy to work with. I haven't tried the Superior brand yet, but plan to when I run out of what I have on hand right now.

Lynn!! Your BOM is just WONDERFUL!!
This is my first time too doing machine applique!! I did not know what to use with my new machine (Huskvarna/Viking Sapphire 870) and Bob, Mr. Superior Threads himself, recommended I use Monopoly (clear) on top and So Fine on the bottom!! AND I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!! Damaris
