    How to Soak Appliqué Blocks

On another topic, Show and Tell Your Blocks, it was mentioned blocks might be distorted due to “washing” after stitching.

    Here is my response:

Think “soak”, not wash. Lay blocks in a sink or pan of warm water and leave them, 15 minutes or so. Drain, lay flat on fluffy towel, roll in towel then allow to dry flat. You could use a dry iron to speed the drying process—easier to leave overnight. Don’t wring or scrunch the blocks. There should be no distortion to stitches this way.

Press blocks face down on a fluffy towel with a dry iron—press on the back side before pressing the front—this should prevent puckers in appliqué if not completely flat. After blocks are dry and flat, carefully trim to correct size, 7.25” unfinished.
