Sizzle Block 2 - Issue and suggestion

I am not an avid paper piecer, so this is all kinda new to me. I understand most of it, but really need guidance with this, which is why I was so excited that Becky was doing videos each month.

I ran into issues with the first section yesterday. for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to position fabric 1 and 2 in section 1. I spent more than an hour (and several re-cuts of fabrics) before I finally had that "oh, I get it now" moment.

It would be so helpful if the monthly videos could walk us through the block. I know you can look at the old videos, but they are a different block. That would e very helpful for us that don't grasp the PP thing like the advanced quilters do. If videos are too cumbersome, maybe more visuals in the monthly patterns would be the way to go.

    Thanks for pondering this!

Suzanne, did you look at my blog? On the first of each month I post a blog for that month's block that shows the process step-by-step. Becky does not have a video for each month--all the videos for the blocks have been posted. The next videos will be posted in late Summer as we prepare to tackle the applique' borders.

I break each block down, showing her process and/or suggestions of my own. Becky is happy with these and is glad we are able to give those new to paper piecing even more help. Here is my February 1 blog--I always put a link on the Forum to it also, making it easy to find:

BTW, do you realize your Avatar is the man's silhouette? You can go to "My Profile" and change it.

This doesn't look right. Shouldn't the wedge stick out a bit more on top for seam allowance?

Finally figured out points don't match after ripping out a few times.

        Hi Barb.
I looked at your blog and I have a different problem for block 2. I followed patteren and put light fabric, med fabric and dark fabric as suggested on sections but when I want to put in the wedge the dark fabric is at the top and I want the dark fabric to be in the centre? What gives? Thanks

Meegwat, I just watched the video for Month 2 again and reviewed the pattern pieces. Here is what I think the issue is if I understand your question:

The light, medium, dark designations on the pattern pieces were written to describe the Warm Kit fabrics. They are not going to be the same for the Cool Kit fabrics and Becky says this under the section CONSTRUCT THE BLOCK in the Cool pattern instructions.

With this block, the Light fabric is in the center on the Warm block and the Dark fabric is in the center on the Cool block. You should be able to rotate the Diamond so that the center and outer points are reversed if don't like how the fabrics are arranged. This will probably make your pressing arrows not work the best--just follow Becky's pressing tips in the Block 2 video to get the seams flowing nicely around the block.

I hope this helps and if I don't quite have your question correct, just ask for more help. A photo of the issue would be helpful.

Thats what I get for skim reading. You got what I was talking about. And yes I am following the cool colourway.
Easy to miss this: (NOTE: The values in parentheses on the foundation paper-pieces may not match the values of the fabric in the Cool Colorway.)
I'll just start over. I've only done 3. Or like you said I could reverse the diamond and they would just spin the other way right? I'll think about this one.
Thanks so much for taking the extra time :-)

Yes, if you rotate the Diamonds they simply spin in the opposite direction. Glad you figured it out.
