    Block Corner Piecing Tip

Today I assembled my Cool blocks into a complete top. I found my Block Corner seams were coming apart.

Here is the blog post I just wrote about how to avoid this and how to fix it--this might save you some time down the road:

Barbara, I love the idea of stay stitching in the seam allowance after cutting blocks pieces to size, and where it cuts off the back stitching. It is the perfect fix.
I will use this tip a lot in the future on many projects. I hope everyone doing Sizzle will look at your fix. I plan to use it on other seams that are not pressed open
but have no backstitching because they were oversized and cut off any backstitching. It should work as long as I do the stay stitching in the seam allowance.

Thanks, Helen. It is so much easier to do this while making the block—I have to “fix” each block now. Hoping I can save someone else some time.

I missed the tip about oversizing the block corners. Boy, would that have been a good idea! None of mine are 20 1/2”. How exactly di you do that?

I cut the block corner fabrics 11”, then rectangles 11” x 13” which allowed me to cut 2 block corners or 4 with two layers just as the instructions showed. That extra half inch was nice “insurance”.

February 9 I wrote a Forum topic called Important Cutting Instructions for Block Corners where I mentioned this suggestion. Sorry you missed it.

This week I got the Cool version top finished—I created a pieced border instead of appliqué. I will do the appliqué on my Warm version.
