Month 6 Half Square Triangle Borders

It's a day early, but that's good, right?

Here is my blog with tips/tricks/photos for our next sawtooth border. As you'll see, I made mine scrappy:

    Enjoy!

I have a question about the paper piecing strips for the top and bottom strips. On page 7 & 9, the strip on the right side of each page shows the diagonal line on piece 11 goes in the opposite direction from all of the other triangles. However, when I look at the diagrams in the instructions all triangles face the same direction. These two pieces are printed incorrectly, right?

Linda, thanks for mentioning that. I'll go update my blog with the change. Here is the info you need:

Originally, Sue had those two corners, pages 7 and 9, with a half square triangle. Apparently, she later replaced those two spots with solid white squares to make them match the first 1" sawtooth borders from Month 2. We were unable to change her paper patterns to correct this. I simply used a pencil on those two corners, saying "replace with one white square". I'll show that on the updated blog.

Believe me when I say we check and double-check all these things, several sets of eyes involved, and still things slip through--I am so sorry and thanks, again, for catching it so quickly.

No problem, Barbara. Thanks for all that you do on this BOM. You are very much appreciated.

Barbara, there is already one white square in the top and bottom row. Shouldn't this line just be redrawn the other way instead of replacing with another white square?

We are working on an update to Month 6. Yes, the patterns on pages 6 and 8, that say "this should be one white square" are not correct--that should be what it says at the bottom of pages 7 and 9, in place of the half square triangles that go in the opposite direction. We will have the update posted in the next few days--we are working hard at it to make things as easy to understand as possible, I promise.

The updated information is now present in the download section of the BOM, as well as a supplement which explains the corrections that were pointed out by other forum people. The update explains the page 7 and 9 issues, as well as differences between Carolyn Hock's sample and Barbara Black's quilt-in-progress on her blog. Certainly we all agree with TQS in that we miss Sue Garman very much. If I may speak for the group, we are fortunate that Barbara Black has her Halo Medallion Sunday Sew and Sews group. She has been invaluable to this BOM group by extension.

I am, however, still on flying geese circles.....

This is a test--I haven't seen any new posts here since June 3 so I am checking to see if I've missed some.

                Thanks.

I haven't posted on here but I do see your post Barbara to test this. I started my month 6 yesterday and decider to go scrappy and glad I did. Happy Quilting. The Minnesota Quilt Show starts tomorrow in Duluth, MN. Always a wonderful show.

I have finally found a focus fabric, and have gotten a start on my quilt and am playing catch up. I am starting on block 3, but am wondering if there should be just a quarter inch at the points, or if there is a space before the next floater? Looking at the picture its hard to tell.

OlgaJo, I am not clear on your question. Are you asking about the Month 3 Staggered Star border? If so, the blocks are 4" x 5" finished and the star points should come out right at the finished edge of the block, so 1/4" to the outside unfinished edge. If this isn't your question, just ask and I'll try to help you.

bbquiltmaker - I guess that I didn't explain very well. What I was asking was if when the half square triangles are added to the centre medallion, does it float, or does the red sashing touch the next floater - shown as green on the original quilt picture. I have tried to determine this from the pictures, and some float and some touch. Thanks for responding as I believe I posted to the wrong topic.

Yes, mine float about 1/4" against the first floater. If yours touch, you will just make adjustments with future floater borders. Glad you have jumped onboard.
