Monthe 2 BOM 2017 The Halo Medallion Quilt

In viewing Month 2, I don't see a 'test square' to make sure our printers are printing the half square triangle pieces correctly. Any ideas on how to test this?

The sawtooth borders are made from 1" half square triangles. Measure your triangles to be sure they are 1".

Hi! I need some advice. My month one block measures 16 1/2 by about 16 1/8. How do I make up the difference? Should I try to add a bit to one side of the "red" binding or try to adjust the focus fabric? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Camorton, yes, add different size red borders to create a center star that measures 17.5" unfinished, 17" finished, so then your center star is exactly the size you need to go on to the next step, adding the Corner Setting Triangles. IF your center star is larger than 17.5" unfinished, simply use the math formula Sue provides to determine the size Corner Setting Triangles you need. The fact your red borders are different sizes will not be noticeable at all, since the difference is so small.

Thank you. I too figured that it wouldn't be very noticeable.

Love your color scheme and workmanship! Any tips for getting that saw tooth border attached so perfectly?

I am really a garment sewer and have fallen in love with Sue's quilt patterns. My advise is, take it slowly and enjoy every step of the process!

The first month my center medallion was 15 3/4th inch instead of 16 1/2 unfinished. With paper piecing, and I've done a lot of that, I don't know where I went wrong. I will use a floater strip to get that back on target. Now I'm doing the half square triangle strip, left side strip. I want to make sure it all goes OK this time. The width of my finished strip will be 15 /16 th of an inch. This may be correct, but I want to make sure before I continue. The 1 inch test square turned out exact last month so I don't think I have a problem there. Could someone measure and let me know how wide their strip is. I've made 2 of Sue's quilts before and never had a problem. Thank you. Joany

Joany, the sawtooth half square triangles are 1" exactly all along the strip. If yours are 15/16" there is a problem. Some people have corrected printing issues by printing from a different browser, or saving to their computer and printing from there. If anyone else can give you suggestions on correcting your "slightly too small" patterns, please post here for Joany.

The cutting requirements for month 2 indicate 'red print'. should this be the solid red?
