The buttonhole looks great. That's what I'm thinking of doing. What thread did you use?

For buttonhole stitch I used auroral 50 in the needle and off-white cone (brand?) in the bobbin. I changed thread color for different crosses often so did the crosses in sets by color ( first blue, then purple, etc.). I did all the center squares in yellow no matter what the fabric color was.
I shortened the width and length of the stitch to make the horizontal and vertical stitches even length.
I did buttonhole stitch by hand for the Month 1 center panel and was worried about how Month 1 and 3 would look together but they are fine. Liking the machine buttonhole more and more for fused appliqué.

Month 3 done--needle-turn applique' of all shapes. I made the crosses in one piece, applique'd in place, then applique'd the square in the center. After the 4 borders were all trimmed to size and added to the center, I applique'd the corner flowers--each of the 6 petals individually then the center circle.

Bravo for doing hand appliqué- you did a beautiful job. I like how your petals slightly overlap the seams- pulls it all together.

Love seeing the photos of others work- hoping for more!

I will be doing the same and add to the centre after i have appliqued.

I also cut the flower as one one piece and then added the square and used machine blanket stitch.

Mshendel's fabric choices are so gorgeous and rich and original! As anticipated, I am a bit bogged down at month 3. I have chosen the reproduction fabrics for my crosses and flowers but still find appliqué very daunting. Does anyone remember where to find a freezer paper "trick" that Alex demonstrated recently? I am also working to finish my grandson's college graduation quilt--pieced maple leaves in batik. Seeing others' progress at this forum is inspiring and reminds me how much I want this finished quilt hanging on my wall. Keep posting those pictures please.
