    W Block

My W block is not coming out at 6 1/2". The 4 blocks are cut to 2 1/2" and when pieced together they come out at 4 1/2" square, adding the side triangles the center windmill is now 4" square, but when turned on its side the 4" square does not measure 6" across, more like 5 5/8" (which would be my finished block size when the sashing has been added and it should be 6" finished).

Is anyone else having this problem and know what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks for any help.

We heard the expression in a show or two ago...if your block is small, make your seams smaller. If you block is too large, make the seams larger. Sometimes, with a lot of seams in a block, this can be the difference of a thread or two. You can always take it apart and res-stitch. I do it all the time.

Good suggestion. Now to unpick and re-sew. Thanks. Irene

Hi in the video she suggests that we cut the 2 background fabrics 41/4 square and then cut each on the diagonal as it is very tight using 4" squares
        Hope this helps

Square the 4 blocks to 2-5/8". That should give you the correct size. Measurements for on-point blocks are hard to get completely accurate. This is where the On-Point Ruler by Donna Lynn Thomas would be useful.

Thank you for the info re cutting each square to 2 5/8" square. I will check out the on-point ruler. Irene
