    L block log cabin

    Hi all,
I just sewed the log cabin and mine is only 4 1/2x 4 1/2 when I follow the instructions. The middle square is 1 1/2x 1 1/2 and the stripes are all 1 wide, so with 4 on each side it does not get bigger.

Is any one else having this problem, or do I have a mistake in my block?

    Thx for your answers, Michaela

Hi Michaela, Is it possible that your seam allowance is too big? I used a paper piecing method (got a template from about.com and just left out the last row of logs to finish at 5.5") which was much easier.

The center square should measure 1" after the strips are sewn around it, and the strips should each measure 1/2" finished. If you have 4 strips on each side, that should come out to 5 1/2", or 5" finished. As Rita suggested, check your seam allowance and the size you cut the strips.

        Hi,

 I forgot to change to the inch sewing foot, shame on me; I will simply add another round and cheat a little bit with the background fabric.

          Sounds like a plan!
