    Ruler foot for domestic machines

I watched Patsy Thompsons Guest DVD for ruler work on a Domestic machine, and wondered if there was any one out there that has purchased a foot and used it. My dealer is selling them now and I ordered one along with a Sew Steady table, but it will be a few weeks before they get it in. I have been watching all the YouTube videos I can find, but would like to chat with others that are actually using a ruler foot on their regular sewing machine.

What brand of machine do you have? Which ruler foot are you getting?

Has anyone heard yet if/when Bernina is getting a ruler foot?

      Judith,

I am getting the Sew Steady table and ruler foot for my Brother Quattro. The foot I'm getting is from Westalee Designs, http://www.sewsteady.com/collections/westalee-design-by-sew-steady-products. I was able to try it out a little bit at my dealer, but not knowing what I was doing, i didn't do a lot with it. They had it on a different machine, but it is similar to my Quattro. I can't wait to get it and play around with it.

Fun to hear all about your playing around with your ruler foot.

i have been playing around with my ruler foot on my machine and some really nice rulers. I found that I need to have the super slider underneath, those little sand paper circles on my ruler so they'll be easier to keep in place, and wearing my quilting gloves. If I do all that it is really fun. Oh, I also found that smaller rulers work best for my domestic machine work.

Judy, last night I watched a Bernina longarm webinar and the speaker stated clearly, as an aside, that Bernina was working on a Bernina ruler foot for the domestic machine and the availability date was unclear; in fact, she might have even said that testing had been completed (you'd have to watch the Webinar to be sure... it was "Explore Quilting Rulers" at http://www.bernina.com/en-US/Events-US/Webinars/USA/Recorded-Webinars/ArchivedQuiltAsDesired). IF, indeed, testing has been completed, then I suspect, based on past experience, that Bernina USA will likely roll it out at Bernina University (in July this year), when dealers will get to play with it and then it will be available to the general public. Just speculation on my part, though...

Sewdreamy, I have a supreme slider and some gloves so when I get my things I will be ready to play. I have a few quilts that I need to get quilted, but will practice on scraps first to get the hang of it. I need to practice my free motion more than what I have been doing... and I'm hoping that also using a ruler foot will help me get some of my quilt tops quilted.

Thank you, Renata! My Bernina dealer told me that any damage done to the machine would not be covered by the warranty, while using rulers or another brand of feet not approved by Bernina. I can't afford that much risk. I decided to wait on Bernina.
