washing machine
Hi all,
I am in the market for a new washing machine. My current Maytag is over 25 years old. I know I want a top loader. The on-line reviews I have read concerning machines I am interested in seem to go from one extreme to the other ("best machine I ever had" to "don't buy this piece of junk"). I would appreciate hearing from any of you who really like (or hate) a machine you bought recently. It's a significant financial committment, so I don't want to regret my choice.
Thanks to all of you!

Susan,
I bought a front loader because they use less water to get the clothes clean. But if it's a top loader you want, why not look at the ones that don't have an agitator. One of my quilting friends has one and she says it's the best machine she's ever had. I don't know what brand it is, but i don't think there are that many like that out there.

OMG ! Whatever you decide.....read and re-read the machine owners' manual......I just made that mistake  ...and
it is going to cost me several Hundred dollars to correct it !! Who knew hot water was an "extra" and a tub rinse ?, too.
And how long do you have to wait to release the lid lock?? and lid-locks....holy cow....how many thousands of laundry loads.....
Well, you get the idea ! I don't know how I'm going to turn out yet....good luck to you !

Glad you posted, Marilyn--sorry this happened to you! Great lesson for any of us contemplating a new machine. I had an apartment style washer and dryer for 20 years, then my next one (a Maytag Neptune--front loading) for the past 15 years and still doing beautifully, but I'm sure at some point my time will be running out so I really cannot say alot about this topic. I have two friends with top loaders (both LG) who love their machines but when I've tried to pull laundry out of the top loading LG washer I could not reach all the way down... I'm 5'3"). No fun! Just a thought...

We've had a Whirlpool Duet, front load for the past 8 years and does a great job. Don't recall the brand for the top load before this one but I really like front load better.
I have to give credit to DH. When he's home, he does the laundry, puts clean clothes in place (kids, his and mine ops: ops: ops: nah! Not really blushing) and irons his own clothes. He's great at helping out. He won't sweep or mop but helps with everything else. We do dishes by hand unless we have visitors and helps with that too. He's definitely a keeper

i had washing machine that feeds from the top, it was great, but my father had the same and he had a lot of problems! after that i had a machine that feeds from the front, until now i had only one small issue long time ago, the hinge was broken, after i changed it since i have it for 18 years in total and it still working great. what ever you choose the most important there is no manufacturer mistake, then every thing goes fine. few days ago i saw samsung washing machine that doesnt use detergents, i dont know if it is good, i assume it is too soon to tell. good luck!

I have a top loader (Admiral Capacity Plus) and a front loader (Miele Honeycomb Care) and I have to say that the Miele is the best machine I have ever had. I find the top loader doesn't really wash the clothes very well. And yes there is that added problem of having to use the hot tank to fill it whereas the front loader has a heater in the machine. But having said that, the top loader is handy for washing quilts and duvets. The combination of using an entire hot tank to heat the top loader and the amount of water it uses for rinses is a serious factor in these energy conserving times. I don't think I would buy one again. I have tried to sell my top loader but nobody in this country wants to buy it because it doesn't heat the water in the machine. And because we are a very energy conscious nation.

I also have the Whirlpool Duet front loading washer and dryer since 2006. Loved them. They are both in storage now though until we move back home.
