    Quilting Olympics

I have been inspired by watching the Olympics in London, and, as an 'Idea Person" for our LQG, I thought it might be neat to finish off the year next June with a Quilting Olympics. Perhaps teams could be formed and there would be stations to go around and complete, relay-style. Like, for example, cutting a certain number of 2 1/2 squares of 2 or 3 different fabrics, frog stitching a 10 inch length, embroidering a set shape, making half square triangles (without the ready-made papers. cutting circles using scissors, using a rotary cutter, fussy cutting (each team would have the same fabric) etc...

The finsihed projects could be assembled during the summer to make a charity quilt?
What do you think of this idea, and do you have any suggestions or warnings!

Terri, have you seen any of those Jelly Roll races on youtube? Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EomX7t7to_o

You could do the same with a charm pack - but you would have to make sure they are all the same size. I have noticed that they are making some of them now with less than 40 or 42 squares in them. If there were 42 squares then they could do a 6 across x7 down quilt.

You could have the fastest yard cutter - Perfect 3" strips = 12 strips?

The fastest froggit by width of fabric 42"?

    Just a few suggestions.

I think quilty games are a fun idea... however, my concern is that speed and rotary cutters do not mix well! I would not have a fastest cutting contest.

Perhaps the fastest piecer of a block, faster frogger, fastest presser of a yard of wrinkled fabric, etc.

Our guild is doing the "Jelly Roll Race" in the fall. We expect to have at least 20 charity quilt tops pieced that day. Should be fun!

If your cutting happens to be ripping your fabric--like Ricky does--it would be safer.

I've done the "take one charm pack challenge" with a charm pack that was gift from a wonderful friend.

And, who is going to come and visit me and be the official who makes sure that I don't cheat?? And what about testing for drugs?? I may drink too much strong coffee or too many single malts!

Thanks for that las bit, Lorchen. I just shaved mine (or is that too much information?) well, I'm bleeding in three spots. I should just wear slacks.

LOL--relieved to know those weren't your legs. The quilt is great and I don't know how we will make you behave.

Your quilt is beautiful Lorchen. Not sure about the cheating part but, If your corners match, your seams are straight and your blocks are the right size, it should be good enough to pass an anti-doping test

Terrie, You are just too funny. Sorry for your wounds! As for just wearing slacks, not a bad option.

or put a button on them  .

Watched Rita's jelly roll race, brilliant! they came up with really nice quilts. The winners time was just 30mins and no rotary cutters involved.

Wouldn't the jelly-roll race be an individual sport, rather than a team sport? I was think teams. Unless one person did the stripping, while others did ripping and other stuff - ha! stripping and ripping! This could be fun! LOL

Love the colors of your quilt, Lorchen and all the stars quilted in! Too tired to be funny, but wanted to at least comment.
