In memory of Sally Ride (first American woman in space).

Sally Ride died today. She was the first American woman astranout to go up in space. She designed a block, which she had made and took on her trip to outer space. I wonder if I can find my copy.

I once met this gracious woman some years back. She was a very vivacious and interesting woman. God bless her.

Margarita, I remember that she had made a quilt block and taken it up in the Shuttle with her. She showed us that we can be scientists, quilters, and whatever else we want to be.

Margarita~ I completely missed the "quilt block in space" aspect of Sally Ride's historic trip! If you can find her design can you post it? I have googled for quite some time now, and can find no reference to it.
        Thanks!

The female astronaut who took a quilt block to space was Dr. Jan Davis not Sally Ride. The block was an appliqued block using the shape of the spaceshuttle. Betty Ann

            Betty Ann,
            Great that you knew that!

Thanks, Betty Ann! I was able to see Dr. Jan Davis' quilt block on line. I was so unaware of it all! Had I ever known, I'm sure I would have remembered because, coincidentally, I have a cousin named "Jan Davis". My cousin, however, has never been in space and doesn't even quilt...as far as I know!
