    Embellished quilt

I went to the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis today and saw the Civil War exhibit. They had a quilt made in 1866. It was a log cabin block with the blocks turned to form the dark and light diagonal lines across the quilt. In the center, going down on the dark diagonal it said "Feed the Hungry". The lettering looked to be some sort of metal sequins or buttons. The quilt was made to auction off to raise money to help feed the hungry Confederates in the area. The quilt was beautifullly done. Naturally all by hand. It impressed me as being the oldest embellished quilt I have seen. If you happen to be at this museum, check out this quilt.

Thanks for the heads up! Isn't it great how everyone finds these things and brings the info back to TQS!?!
