Thanks Nonnie. I really like what Leah Day does and I will be keeping up with this one too. And I really like what she says too. Her reviews of sewing machines are great, no nonsense, and practical. I love her soap-box moments about the cost of the higher-end machines and how they are prohibitively expensive for most people. Particularly as this is a craft which should be accessible to all, young and old, rich and poor. And how the advertisers are very cleverly giving us the message that without these expensive machines we cannot achieve the best results - which is of course nonsense. It's practice that makes perfect and a good solid machine. All the bells and whistles are extras that most people don't use anyway. Okay, I am down off my high horse now! Rita.

Could not have said it better, with all you've said here, Rita! Practice and a good solid machine rings so true in my book too! Also, I've been following Leah Day for the past year as I delved into quilting for the first time over the past year. Her videos of the Free Motion Quilting Project were what allowed me to sit at my machine and play and learn since I've had no instruction in FMQ. I like her approach and sincerity with which she approaches her art. I will be following her 2012 FMQ Project as well. One of my goals, this year, is to become more comfortable with FMQ--and that means a lot of practice!
