HINT NEED to learn how to do a triangle exchange
Any tips on how to do the triangle exchange. We have twelve ladies who want to do the triangle exchange. We chose civil war/ repro and batiks as our fabrics. As we have never done this before we are wondering if anyone has any tips on how to organize and run an exchange. Any pitfalls that we should look out for.
We have ordered the triangle book but do not expect the arrival for 7 to 14 days. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Anna, you might want to go back and read the entries about our exchanges here: forum/friendship-triangle-exchange
The topics with the most entries may be the most helpful.
Edyta's books have some basic guidelines that will help with a smaller group.

I was wondering if you and your friends would you be willing to open up your triangle exchange to outsiders? A friend and I are interested, but didn't get a Quilt Show membership until after the big exchange was already over.

You can order them here if your local quilt shop doesn't carry it or is not able to get a copy for you:

look under "Books and Calendars"

Thanks for your suggestions. My friend Dawna and I have read Edyta's books (helpful tips and lovely quilts), and then we saw the show on this website with her too. I hadn't thought about my local quilt shop, because the owner is busy with quilt classes and grandkids. They might allow me to put up a flyer to see if other quilters would be interested (nearest guild with an evening meeting is a little far away). I've been checking in The Forum to see if anyone else missed the first exchange. And of course, LadyRags and her friends may wish to keep their exchange among themselves as it would be more personal and simpler. I just hoped there might be others like us who'd have fun getting into an exchange.
Sue

If you suggest that your shop owner sell some "cinnamon sticks" she might be more inclined to work with you!
Edyta suggests shops sell one dark fabric and one light fabric rolled up with a sheet of her HST foundation paper. She calls them "Cinnamon Sticks". My local quilt shop is trying this!

To anyone else interested in doing a triangle exchange, I was able to find one at Quakertown Quilts in Texas (quakertownquilts.com) that my friend and I are doing. The deadline for joining is November 15th, 2011, and they need to receive your completed units by February 1, 2012.
The Quakertown Quilts exchange is using batiks. Participants will use triange paper to create 2" finished units (2 1/2" with seam allowance) and each sheet will make 84 triangles. They are sending one sheet extra per background yard in case of mistakes (or if you want more triangles with backgrounds from your stash, but you can't send those in for exchange). If you buy 3 yards of background, and make as make triangles as possible, you will have 84 x 4 FQ x 3 yards = 1260 units (1008 from the exchange, and 252 from your stash). Using all of them in an almost square of 35 units x 36 units, gives you a quilt of 70" x 72" if you don't add setting triangles, borders, etc.
I am not connected at all with Quakertown Quilts, except for joining the exchange program a few days ago. Since I've seen others in the Forum comment on buying sewing machines and naming brands, I thought it would be okay to post this for other members who might have missed the Quilt Show exchange.
Happy Quilting,
Sue in Wisconsin
