Monkey quilt pattern using Snails Trail blocks

Sometime in the past year I saw a pattern in a quilt magazine, I really don't know which one  , for a children's quilt using snails trail blocks and appliqué for monkeys. It had blue and red/orange monkeys. I tore the pages out and saved them to make it for my granddaughter. Now I'm ready to make the quilt but I can't find the pages I "saved"! If I could even find out what issue of what magazine it was I could order a back copy but I have no idea. Does anybody know? I would be so thankful for your help!

There was a pattern similar to the one you describe in Quiltmaker Magazine, July/August 2011 issue. The pattern is called "Tumbling Monkeys." It doesn't have snail trail blocks, but it is really cute. It is pictured in the preview for this issue: http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quil...gust-preview/.

    Cheers --- Joanne

Joanne, thank you, but no, this one used the snail trail block as the arms and legs of the monkeys while the head/face and maybe the tail were appliqué. I've been sitting here with graph paper trying to figure out how it may have been laid out. I could "wing it" if I could figure out the coloring for the right effect and I think I need to put the blocks on point and maybe alternate with solid blocks? I really appreciate your effort though! Thanks!

        Lynn,
I was intrigued by your pattern description. The only thing I could find by googling was this - I was hoping it might help.

If you find the pattern and /or figured it out I would really be interested in it if you wouldn't mind sharing.
        Good luck.

Saw something in here like that yesterday while poking around.
Reminded me of the old Barrel of monkeys game.

                Lynn,
                I don't think I could follow a pattern with my hand held...LOL
                Sorry its not the one. But I think if you can master that design format {snail trail}
you could add a monkey in the mix pretty easy.
That one gave me an idea for a cheater quilt in my fabric designing.

Problem with googling it is it is a quilt style monkey wrench, snail trail,so similar {who knew I did not} keep popping up.
So searching for a monkey in a snail trail don't pull up many hairy little monkey quilts. Still looking.

I found this how to for a snail trail.

Maybe you can incorporate a money in there.

Thanks Granny Nan !! I especially like the "orangutang" quilt!! I have made the "let sleeping cats lie" quilt the lady was talking about. I just made one of the squares with 4 cats in it and put the mice up in the corners. It turned out cute and I gave it to my sister for a wall hanging.

Lynn, I would still be interested in the pattern you are looking for when you find it.

oh happy day! I searched quilting magazines at the library today and found the pattern I've been looking for. I've taken pics with my cell phone and the quality is not too good but I hope you will get the idea. The pattern is in the August 2011 issue of Quilter's World magazine. Thank you all for all your efforts to help me find these! I'll be able to create a similar pattern based on these photos. Again, many thanks!

Glad ya found him. Shows what determination can do for ya!

Not exactly what I was looking for....I may have found it and not even known... the monkey does not show up very much ..kinda incognito! I was looking for monkeys. LOL

Is it just the 4 curves in any direction that makes a snail trail or is that not a real one, just a variation like one? I don't know a lot about quilt blocks..patterns. It is different then the pattern I found on the web.

The direction of that pattern I found does not lay very well to the 5/6 appendages of a monkey. LOL I tried to get my drawling of a monkey in that shape it just didn't work for me. I did get him created and laid out for fabric design. Just not that shape. I'd show ya a pic of him,if you wanted to see him,but not sure how too do things in here yet.
