Request for 4patch blocks for charity quilts

    http://nonniequiltingdreams.wordpress.com/

The entire story has been posted on my blog over the past month, but I am requesting four patch blocks made from 6 -1/2 inch patches. We are going to use them for a DISAPPEARING FOUR PATCH block ( pattern on my blog.) I got involved in this project because I was appalled at the lack of comfort these children have. I donate to other charities but I am a firm believer in .... CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.

    REQUEST for CHARITY BLOCKS

As you all know I have been working on charity quilts this last month. These quilts are destine for Christmas presents for the children who are sheltered at Whaley Children Center in Flint MI. For various reasons these children live at the center until they age out of the system at age of 18 years. They go to school, live in group units, they learn daily living skills. The have very little in comfort or personal items. We are planning to give each child a quilt as they currently have a basic blanket and sheet set. From what our liaison has seen their are no quilts or comforters. There are 45 children from the ages of 10 to 17 living in the center.

For July we are going to have a quilting day to work on quilts. I am hoping my listeners/ blog readers will be willing to send me one FOUR patch blocks. I think it would be nice we could add some blocks from all across the country. If you are willing please mail the blocks to:

    NONNIE PALMER
    c/o Elaine Quilty Shop
    P.O. BOX 194
    HADLEY, MI 48446

Our patches are 6-1/2 inches sewn into a four patch pattern.
Any style fabric. We mix and match the blocks we have and match them for a pleasing effect. We take everything…. (I got some great fabric at JoAnn Fabric with my coupon last week, Keepsake Collections have improved greatly.) We are then taking the FOUR PATCHES and using them in the DISAPPEARING FOUR PATCH BLOCK. ( See directions/ pattern…… next / previous post. JUNE, 2011 archive.)

Postage should be less than a dollar for standard manilla envelope… but that is a guess on my part as I have not tried to mail one… YET!

    THANK YOU for your considerations.

TQS has got 79,157 members at the moment. Let's say that 10% read messages in the Forum. That would be 7,916. Of those only 10% decide to make one block each (cutting out four equal squares and sewing three straight seams). There would be 790 blocks sent on their way. Mmmmhhhh........ I have made a couple of blocks tonight in less than 15 minutes, and will post them on Monday (together with some long overdue mail to Rosemary).

Phew...... that's enough maths for me..... I'm off to bed.......

I will be putting at least two blocks in the mail on Monday. (I am hoping our postal strike continues to be rotating across the country and doesn't go national).

made some blocks today - will be in the mail first thing on monday

found a bunch of what i thought might be fabrics that boys would also enjoy: pinguins, ice bears, panda bears as well as racing cars and racing helmets - these last two are actually destined for my car-nut 7 year old niece - but i'm sure she won't mind sharing a few blocks  posted envelope on the way to work monday morning - hopefully you get them by early next week 8)

I want to thank everyone a head of time. I knew you guys would come through for the kids. I just got the master list and we have 45 kids but we are making more quilts because they frequently get new kids just before Christmas. Currently the youngest is 11 years old but the majority is between the ages of 13 to 15 years of age. We hope to keep this as an on going mission and make enough quilts to keep these kids in quilts. We have been making matching pillow cases to go with the quilts.

Thanks for any help you can give us. I am posting our progress as we go along.

                  Thank you again

I'm searching my cool "kid" prints as I write this! What a wonderful cause! I will send some off later this week or next! Is the posted address correct? I believe the zip on her site is 48440, not 48446, but then head is still not quite back to normal. I may have looked at it wrong.

You're right about the zip code. I checked her blog, and the correct zip code is 48440.

I'm heading down to my sewing room to sew a few four patches!
