    Hanging a Heavy Beaded Quilt

    Hi all,

I have a heavily beaded - and heavy - quilt, about 3 feet by 4 feet, that I'd like to hang on the wall. The beading is fantastic; I don't think there's an inch that's not beaded. The dealer that I bought it from said it was made in the 40s. Some of the beads have broken but the overall piece is still gorgeous. My concern is supporting the quilt weight evenly throughout - not just sewing a sleeve onto the top back and hanging it that way, because I think the weight of the beads would eventually damage it just hanging down like that. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

I've heard that to display a crazy quilt, one should cover a tube with muslin or some sort of fabric that would be acid free next to the quilt. Lay the quilt over the tube and hang the tube on the wall. . .that way the weight of the quilt is distributed over a greater surface area. You might want to choose a larger tube. . .hmmm wonder how large a tube you could find. . .check shipping companies.

I would call Nancy Eha for advice. Heavy beading is all she does! Gorgeous stuff.

I have no idea how to hang this, but I would really love to see pictures.
