I have been reading about the modern quilt guild movement ... and I think this is where all the new young quilters are hiding. They all seem to have a passion for sewing.... but with their own flair, sensibility and style. I have been enjoying the pictures and remembering when I use to do the same style of projects/ recycling fabrics when I had my first home over 30 years ago. I remember getting a bolt of 100% cotton sheeting ( 54 inches wide and about 20 yards) white with blue butterflies and a bolt of pasty blue chambray cloth from a guy that worked in a warehouse. I dyed the chambray to a dark royal blue and then I decorated my whole apartment using those fabrics...... Bed duvet, sofa slip cover. pillows, and drapes/ curtains. It was a lot of work but also fun and made my little apartment home.

Anyways take a look at the web pages and pictures and post what you think....

I like the randomness in design and the no worries about perfect symmetry. Good for them!

Thanks for posting this information. I checked out the link and discovered that there is a group in Fort Collins (just north of Loveland). I will be checking this out.

I was depressed when I saw the TQS episode with Valori Wells. She said that the average quilter is age 57 (and that was in 2007). I thought NO WONDER I feel out of place! I used to be in a small group that was dominated by women who liked to complain about their ailments and their adult children. I realized that I am the same age as some of their kids!

Not all elderly quilters moan and groan. There are a lot who bounce around the quilting world with a smile on their face and a lot of enthusiasm. As with so many things, you don't always find what's right for you straight away.

I'm 63 and I feel out of place in groups dominated by women who complain about their ailments and adult children. :lol: :lol: I think there are lots of quilters they aren't counting however. I know quite a few younger quilters (I always am skeptical about such statistics) who, like me, don't have time to participate in a quilting guild (other than this wonderful online guild) because they are bizzy.

I looked up the modern quilt guild after I saw it on an episode of Quilt Out Loud. There's a local chapter in the greater NYC area. I found that quite a few members of SAQA are also members of this new movement.
I'm 57 but I'm still trying to find my voice in quilting. I wonder how many of us there are doing this? :?: :?:

Thanks for posting this link, it goes to show that there can be more LQS in the area than what one thinks, and it opens the opportunity to fellowship with more like minded people, ie. Quilters :wink:
