What patterns would you suggest to teach younger (7-9 year olds) age kids to quilt. Any hints or tips on any aspect of teaching kids would be helpful.
In our first sessions we are teaching them a hand project. They are making, quilting and appliqueing a small project that will be turned into a pillow cover.
We have lined up several sewing machines for later projects but those will not be available til later this fall.

Keep it fun. The only rules that they can't break are safety rules, which kids seem to pick up much faster than adults. Also when planning projects ask them what they like. I've chatted to a lot of UK young quilters and they are uninspired by the projects they are offered but have great ideas of what they want to do. Often it is a slight change to the planned ideas and a change of title.
Oh and be prepared to learn form them. With no knowledge of the rules they may well move quilting forwards by accident.
