CIVIL WAR BLOCK OF THE MONTH QUILT

Have you seen the new CIVIL WAR BLOCK OF THE MONTH QUILT ? I have been seeing the patterns and the fabric in all the LQS. From what I understand some of the suppliers who are carrying the pattern, fabric and kits had to reorder everything because they sold out. Just wondering what you think of it.

I personally like the blocks but I do not care for the fabric... I do not like kits as I want control over picking out my fabrics.... but then I would probably end up doing the blocks in Brights/ Blenders/ Tone on Tone and maybe Batiks... Wouldn't that be a kick.

HI there - new to forums and don't know if I can ever find my way back here! FWIW, I started the civil war BOM - my first BOM ever and I picked a doozy . . I am doing it for my son, we both like the colors for a guy. Each month has more than one block. Each block has about 30-50 pieces! no lie! March's was 4 blocks of 50 peices each - 200 pieces. it will be a keeper and I won't let him take it with him if I don't like his future girlfriend ..
What I also like about it is each month part of the history, so I am making a booklet to go with it. I think it will be a great quilt

I think you are very ambitious and brave to attempt his quilt, My girlfriend is doing it and she finds it challenging but something she always wanted to do.

      good luck with it

My LQS is sponsoring this BOM and I was interested until I saw a sample block on display at the shop. I was turned off by the fabrics ....they're too dull. It would look better if they selected some lights for contrast. Like you, I found the pattern to be too challenging for my taste. I'm doing the American Beauty BOM by Marti Michell instead. Love the colors and her templates.

I really love Civil War fabrics and have been collecting them for several years. I think the quilt you all are talking about is to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. I've been working on the Charleston Harbor BOM from the Fat Quarter Shop. The blocks are pretty simple--you might contact the shop and see if they are still offering the kits. I was looking at several Civil War books by Barbara Brackman the other night--I think I'm going to make my commemorative quilt using some of her patterns. Judy in Torrance
