    Consumer Produce Safey Commission...

remember way back there was an uproar about donated goods and testing for lead content in fabric and thread?
Project Linus and other organizations were unsure how the new ruling would affect them. Well the decision has been made...fabric, thread and yarns do not have to be tested by the maker.
HOWEVER...there are other rulings which have come down.

Resale shops, yard sales, church sales.e-bay seller, Craigs list are all included in the new rules.

Of course if you make handmade items to sell for children...you probably know about this information.

You can read about it here:
    http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09299.html

And this one for yard sales, resales is good to keep on hand:

Don't resell "Clothes with rhinestones, metal or vinyl/ plastic snaps, zippers, grommets, closures or appliqués. Best to test, contact the manufacturer, or not sell."

Are they kidding? What kinds of children's clothes have no snaps, zippers, closures or appliques? No ZIPPERS????

Just remember folks, no one is responsible for themselves. Some one else has to always do all their thinking and decision making. Bobbi

Try telling a group of 9 year old dancers that they cannot have 'rhinestones' on their costumes anymore! I thought they were going to lynch me!!!

Seriously, the moms are even mad at me. I'm at the mercy of my suppliers, which are working on the manufacturers that are not in the U.S. to provide testing results.

I understand the need for safety but it's getting to the point where everything will eventually be in the landfill because no one will feel safe freecycling or having a garage sale for fear of getting in trouble.

Believe me...this is a change from what was first suggested!!

I just wonder how many government workers will be out at the crack of dawn on a Saturday looking at yard sale stuff making sure folks are not selling 'poison' stuff.
