HELP! I made one resolution that was I could not start any new projects until I finished all my current ones. Now, we have a new challenge and for a very good cause. HELP! What should I do? I've never been very good about keeping resolutions. Did I just answer my own question? :? Sandi in FL

I'm in!! If you haven't watched the utube interview with Carol Schillios you must. As she states "you can't help but want to do something". -- Deb

Last summer, my daughter visited Mali on a study abroad and they toured some of the women's fabric shops (maybe these same ones?). She brought back some fabric, and just last weekend I cut out pieces to make a quilt out of them using what appear a pattern that appears to be for paper-pieced "dolls" but which does not really use paper piecing. It is so cute! But I can see that it will require a lot more African fabrics than I have now. So I resolved to buy more.

Then, when I got little bits of all of her African fabric cut out for the dresses and bodices for the dolls, I realized tht I really needed some more mottled or solids to mix and match.

So...This challenge could not have come at a better time! I ordered one packet of each set. That should give me all the fabric I need to finish this quilt! Whoopee!

She is planning to go back to Mali or at least West Africa in the Peace Corps, so this quilt will have special meaning to her.

I read about the new challenge just as my husband and I are planning our trip to Nakuru, Kenya in late Feb to mid March. My husband and his foundation are going w/teachers to the Mountain Park Academy to teach teachers to teach English. (get all that!?) I'm going along to teach the women to sew. I will show them how to make items they can sell at the local markets. I am collecting supplies now, scissors, thread, pins, needles, etc. So far, I don't think there are any sewing machines, but I can hope. I love handpiecing, so this will be no problem. I'm so looking forward to it!
