Guild Newsletter Articles by Ricky and Alex

In the thread WHAT HAVE I GOT MYSELF INTO where I was griping about the newsletter for my guild, Alex said that she was thinking about putting out information / articles on TQS to give out to quilt guilds in their newsletter. Alex asked what did we think was important... what kind of articles guilds would like to get.

I gave Alex my input but only a few others posted. ( I figured not to many people read the thread due to the holidays.) I am hoping more would post their opinions on what they would like from a quilt guild's newsletter. I am doing a survey of my own guild but I figured that this might let me know what people want to read about.

One f the guilds that I belong to may be interested in having a newsletter from Alex and Ricky. I think it is a great idea to have a newsletter from them. It will help get the word out to more quilters about TheQuiltShow.com and help the quilters learn more. Including subjects of tips and hints, new products just out on the market, upcoming shows, shows calling for entries, new techniques and books, are just a few of the possibilities.
Why more people are not more aware of The Quilt Show I don't understand. I think the subject just needs to be brought to their attention repeatedly. It takes about 10 times before they really listen! I tell them whenever I can!
I would like to hear more about the newsletter.....

P.S. I think I could send it out to the other guild even if it had no local news. They would still enjoy it very much.

How to publicize TQS to a guild is an interesting question. I was thinking about this just last night, when I saw a stack of QNN-TV bookmarks on the head table at my guild meeting.

I've also been thinking of what I might be able to write about TQS for our guild newsletter. Last year I wrote a little piece on the contest to bring Ricky and Alex to the guild. I don't know how many of our guild members joined TQS as a result.

Whatever Alex and Ricky might produce for guild newsletters, it needs to add value for the guild members and not just read like ads for TQS. Otherwise, the newsletter editors are going to ask why they're not just buying ad space. Maybe something like Alex's top 10 tips for organizing your quilting space and Ricky's top 10 tips for organizing your quilting time? I'll give it some more thought and post anything I come up with here.

I'd really like to have something I can hand out to members as they come in, though. (I'm the membership chair.) I know it would be expensive for TQS to print and distribute something (although QNN-TV obviously did it), so what about a PDF of a flyer posted somewhere on the website that I can print and take to the meetings?

Also, what do you think of this for a guild program: bringing a computer and projector and showing a TQS episode to the group? Alex, Ricky, John, and/or Justin would have to tell us whether that would violate their copyright.

There must be all kinds of good ideas! Let's hear 'em, everyone!

I would love it if Alex and Ricky had a place on the site where we could print up a copy of the newsletter or special events going on here (like the challenge) that we could either take to the meeting and pass out or ask for it to be put in our guild newsletter. I don't know if it would be ok to print the newsletter right now without permission. Word of mouth at the meetings is good, but, that written info sometimes sticks better. Sandi in FL

Sandi, I think the idea is that Alex and Ricky want to write little pieces that local guilds can put in their own newsletters, to help publicize TQS to their guild members. I don't think they're talking about producing an entire TQS newsletter for the guilds. We already get one of those in our inboxes every week, and we're free to take those to read out to our members.
