    Silver Star dinner presentation

I need your help!!! At the dinner I have 20 minutes to present - it can be anything I want. John and I were talking about possibilities - do you want to see quits?personal history - if so what? 20 minutes is REALLY short - so i have to be smack on the money. What would you want to see or learn about? Oh great TQS members, please advise .........

Alex, it's a Silver STAR Dinner--why not show your quilts with stars in them? Quilters ALWAYS love to see quilts and learn a little about your journey with each quilt. Congratulations on your award and good luck!!! Judy in Torrance

well Alex, I don't know about you but I can't talk about my quilts without it being a personal history. I remember where I was in my life and what was happening as I worked on each quilt. Some quilts were turning points in my growth as a quilter. Other quilts were a way to keep my mind and heart busy when I had things in my life I didn.t want to think about. I am my quilts. When ever I am asked "How long did it take to make this quilt?" I reply "Now 59 years!" All that I am is allowed to shine thru my quilts. To answer your question--- Let the star that is you shine. Speak of your first quilt and your latest. Then highlight the journey between. Betty Ann in Perfect Florida

As one who will not be there I hope it will be taped and available for us to share. I agree with the others, your history told through your quilts including where you are going next.

Alex, I'd love to see you pick several quilts that tell the story of your quilting journey and hear you talk about your life with the quilts as your props. I hope you will provide a tape of this for TQS. I have followed your career for years, learned a great deal from you and your shows, and am now delighted to be a TQS member. You have done much for quilting. When your TV show was canceled, I was really disappointed, but the resulting TQS site is even better.

Congratulations on the well-deserved Silver Star!

          Cheers, Betty Jo (Sewdreamy).

Congratulations, Alex, on the Silver Star! I won't make it to Houston this year, but look forward to hearing from my TQS buddies about the event that honors you!

If I were there, I would love to hear about some of the quilts that are most special to you and why they hold that place in your in heart and are memorable on your journey! I also think that sharing some of your recent art shows your continual growth and diversity as a quilter. I believe the most well recieved "speeches" are the ones that come from the heart!

You have always been (and will always be) a star in my book! :!:

Have a wonderful evening and ENJOY!

I wish I could be there to see you get the award and hear your speech. I would love to see a video if it is taped. I know how your story began, seen some of your lovely quilts in books and magazines. Talk from your heart, tell us where you are going, show the quilts that are most special to you. Congrats!! I'm not going to be there either but I agree that just hearing about what's on your heart - both in the past that made you do all the wonderful things you've done and what are your hopes and vision for the future of your own quilting and that of the community of quilters.

Wow, What a challenge, Alex! If I had the opportunity to listen, to your 20 minutes, I would hope that not only would you show your first/last quilt and talk briefly about the journey that got you to the last quilt; but that you would also talk about those that helped you get there. Thanks for asking. I hope there is a way that you can post what you said on TQS! Terry

First, congratulations on the Silver Star, truly deserved. To your question, I agree, share how you got to that point with/through your quilts. I will be in Houston, but not at your dinner.
                        Enjoy and Best Wishes,

"Congratulations",well deserved. I know you started sewing at an early age but what actually lit the spark for you to start quilting. What inspired you to teach and share with others world wide. You have given so much to the world and you have taught me alot and I'm sure many thousands. I appreciate all that you have contributed. I agree on all the advice thats given. "You'll be brilliant" Enjoy.
