Quilt lable / quilt care -- need help fast

I need to write up a label for quilt care for an heirloom quilt. I am not sure what to include on the lable.

Please post what you think is important this quilt is destine to be a family treasure but will be used only during the Christmas season.

Also what information to you put on your quilts labels besides
    QUILT MAKER'S NAME AND
    YEAR QUILT WAS MADE

I would also included city and state. I've seen premade quilt care labels. Check out Big Horn Quilt shop and you can see a sample of what they have.

On my quilt labels, I include:

      Quilt name
      Made by ----
      For ---- (if it's a gift)
      Date
      City/State

If it is for a special occasion, I might say something like, "Made for my dear Dad, Ernie Bonkers, on the occasion of his 91st Birthday".

      For care instructions, I say:

Machine wash on gentlest cycle, using cool water and a mild soap such as Quilt Wash or Orvus Paste.
      Line dry in the shade.

NOTE: My quilts are all machine quilted, and can be gently machine washed. I can't say whether this applies to hand-quilted quilts. Quilts with inadequately stitched-down fusibles, or with embellishments, are a whole nother ball game. Care instructions depend a lot on your particular quilt.

My quilt labels are pretty complete and I print them on my inkjet printer using either HP Bubble Jet Set or else Printed Treasures Fabric Sheets, then use HP Bubble Jet Set to set the ink so it is permanent.

Last label I did said something like this:

        NAME OF QUILT
A quilt for xx and xx to celebrate the birth of their first child
May you enjoy many fine snuggles and share many stories under this quilt!

        Pattern: Log Cabin

Wash in cool water with gentle soap.
        Tumble dry on low heat.
Store long-term in cloth bag (not plastic), refolding occasionally to avoid excessive wear along the fold lines.
        All repairs cheerfully made!
        Enjoy!

I saw all the posts about labels but really I am looking for a place to thank Margo for her Label project. Down here in Venezuela we can get freezer paper but only just and we have printers and that's all you need. I was thrilled to see the easy instructions and will be passing this on to my 2 quilting friends here in Caracas. Thanks Margo, you rock!

So glad you found it helpful, Margarita!! I've been doing labels like this for almost 20 years, and can still read the early ones after years of lovin' and washing!
