    Pet insurance

I know this isn't the place for this topic but where else can I get answers. Do any of you have pet insurance? I have spent enough money the past Monday and Tuesday at 2 different veterinarians that I could have bought a new Bernina. Cody had a fever and wouldn't eat or drink and wouldn't let me touch his face. After blood work and x rays and an over all exam, the vets were puzzled. He had to be referred to the doggie dentist who couldn't find anything wrong either. The dental tech who was cleaning his teeth pulled up his tongue ( the dog was under anesthesia) and found a foxtail sticking out. They found 3 others embedded in his mouth. They think that as he was pulling them out of his fur, he swallowed them and one got into his tonsils and burrowed into the flesh and caused an infection, thus the fever. Now he is back to normal taking antibiotics and I check his feet every time he come in from outside. Foxtails are from weeds and have a pointy end and foxtail appearance at the other end. They only go in one direction. Anyway, after paying the bill, I have decided to look into insurance but don't know which company is best. Judy in AZ

Our DD has pet insurance, so I asked her if she was happy with it, and she said yes. She sent me the url for her company:

    http://www.petinsurance.com/index.aspx

She said they have both multipet and employer discounts, too.

        Judy,
I am glad that Cody is doing better. I cannot imagine how much pain he must have been in. Do let us know how the pet insurance works.
I had been thinking about it also. This past February my dog Harley-girl had a cancerous growth on one of her toes and we had to have her toe amputated. Yikes $$$$$$$$ but we love our dog :-)

Pat and Sylvia, I googled pet insurance and came up with a comparison chart of all of the pet insurance companies out there and started reading their reviews by happy and unhappy customers. It is a puzzlement. Judy in AZ :?

We don't have pet insurance. My DD usually does a thorough job of examining things before she buys. She's been very happy with that company, but YMMV.

Okay, Pat, I had to look that abbreviation up. VIP had good and bad comments from customers as do they all. If DD is pleased, then this might be the one to choose. Another of my friends has Banfield and she was thinking of changing over to VIP. Thanks again. The expensive vet called to tell me that the biopsy came back negative so it is just an infection. That is a big relief off of my mind and Cody is doing just fine. Judy in AZ

Hello, we have Banfield, and have loved it!! We saved alot of money!! Especially on routine shots and exams. We pay $16.00 a month and it has been so worth it!! Their yearly exam is like an all day event!!

Do you have to use the insurance company's vets or can you use your own? Judy in AZ

I go to Banfield Pet Clinic and they offered me the "medical insurance" there. I think they have them in most state and alot of them are inside Petco or Petsmart one of the two.
