Washable - Water Solubule Basting Thread

What brands of Washable - Water Solubule Basting Thread is there and can anyone tell me where I can buy it? I want to baste a small quilt ie Sharon Shambers style using the boards but then I want to wash it after I machine quilt is and just have the basting go away ala Ricky Timms method.

    Thanks for any answers...

How much does a spool cost?? just curious... I looked at JoAnns and they do not have any I need my local quilt shop to order some but I do not know where or the manufacturer...

    Thanks again

YLI and Superior both have the water soluble thread.

hmmmm, I have YLI, and I basted then tried to use the washable on the straight and curved lines of my convergence, ala Ricky Tims, and it kept breaking! It was very frustrating! I took it to my quilt store and the lady there said she didn't think I needed it before I did the quilting. good luck, let me know how it works for you!

I've used both w/o problems, but if I recall correctly the large spool from Superior was WAY more cost-effective, if you're ever going to use that much. They say to store it in a ziploc bag so humidity doesn't affect it. I basted and did Ricky's trapunto with it on a large quilt (7th one on my profile) and didn't have any trouble.

ok, I will try again, my spool was in a ziploc, maybe it was too old, and could feel the heat in the POD when we moved! Anyway, I spray basted the quilt, and then thread basted and then was trying to use the wash-away. Is that the right way to do it all? It is the pink and purple cnvergence on my profile. It's not completed so I did not put it in the My Quilts section. It 's my "try new things quilt" and next I'm going to draw a quilting design on the flimsy quilting paper and spray it to the front and try to quilt through it! I read about doing that somewhere! I'm still practicing my machine quilting!

I tried using YLI on a project and had humidity problems while I was sewing. It seems to be a great idea but I just cannot get it to work properly. Maybe if it is kept in a sealable bag with one of those silicon packets that come packed with handbags, shoes, etc? I'm going to try that next.

I use YLI water soluble thread (small spools) and keep them in old pill bottles. I don't put the little silicon packets in but certainly could if I was in a very humid environment. I had one spool that wanted to break consistently but have used other spools with no problem. Ricky does not recommend buying the really large spools because if humidity or the unthinkable-spilled beverage get on it it is done for. Small spools seem to work for me. Ann
