Georgia Bonesteel is on PBS Create TV

    6 am - 12:00 PM - 6pm (EST)

    Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel
    The Quilters' Alphabet• Episode #1101

Finally a real quilting show... I have something to get up for early in the AM... I am going to make a point of watching this show.

I am assuming this is taking over for Sue Houseman' America Sews for this season. Seeing only one show I like it...the set is uncluttered and I could actually see what Georgia was talking about when she sewed. Best of all Georgia actually talks about quilting not embellishing. I think this might be a good show for beginner quilting but also of interest for more advanced quilters.

Ladyrags Yes! I was thinking of you today when I saw that show. But I have cable and saw the show on the Create channel and knew you probably didn't have it. But SO glad you have it. I was so excited and it was a good show.

The Create Channel is part of the new HDTV conversion. I get to see it with my box... I am setting my clock an hour early just to get a chance to see it... I might be sleepy at work but I will be a happy quilter.

I love seeing new techniques... things that make my quilting easier.

The Lap Quilting series on television is made for you—the TV quilting public. It is for you to learn, enjoy and grow in your field. Public requests do help in a program director making that 13 week commitment for a series. These shows are available for 3 years and for 4 reruns. YOU can help by logging onto The American Public Televisions website, http://www.aptonline.org where each local station is listed. Then, just contact your local Program Director via email, post card, fax or even a telephone message. The new series is called Americana, Lap Quilting #1200 produced by The North Carolina Center for Public Television, hosted by Yours Truly, Georgia Bonesteel.

I went to Georgia's web page and found the above post... I am going to see if I can get some more quilt TV shows on... that is one of the only ways I get to see quilting unless I spend a fortune on DVDs which I do anyways. I am hoping they will buy Simply Quilts series from HGTV and show it on PBS. Maybe they will show defunct shows of interest from cable stations.

I really enjoyed Georgia showing how a pattern is drafted. That was interesting. I hope TQS has her on. I think she and Alex could come up with some interesting but more traditional quilting ideas. I get torn between Ricky art innovation and traditional blocks....can make up my mind which I like better... but guess what I do not have to .

I couldn't keep up with the drafting directions. I was wondering if they were on some website. But that was a good show.

Isn't it a bummer that VCR and DVD recorders do not work with the new conversion boxes... I really miss being able to tape my shows and watching them when it was convenient to me. I am told the new conversion boxes will allow taping but I have not heard anything for sure.

It is a pain keeping up with new technology.

LadyRags, I have figured out how to record on my VCR using the converter box! You must have the VCR pre-programmed with channel 3 as the channel you want recorded (that's the channel we use for our converter box). Then, before the time you want something recorded, turn on the converter box and put it on the channel you want to record. It works like a charm but you have to be attentive and turn on the converter box.

As far as I can tell, you cannot watch anything else on the tv while it's recording.

It's not nearly as easy as just recording with the VCR but it is do-able!

Now I'm going to see if I can find Georgia Bonesteel on any of our PBS stations! Thank you!

I was / am planning to go to RADIO SHACK where I bought the converter box and see if I could learn how to hook it up to the VCR... I think I might have to buy a new connection cable from the VCR to the converter box... but I will give it a try.

                Thanks for the help...

Georgia comes on the CREATE TV that goes along with many but not all of the PBS stations... I think it will be the wave of the future for the newer channels of pbs...

It is okay but Create could be better I only like some of the shows not all of them... some of them are not worth my time.

Have fun with Georgia... I think she is on Tuesdays and Thrusdays at 6am 12 noon and 6pm... not sure about mn... shows tend to change.

I live in SE Michigan and we have Comcast Cable.

We just converted to digital cable and have a gazillion stations but no master list of stations.

Anyone know if Create TV is on the Comcast lineup?

Create belongs to channel 56... I think it is 56.3. Since 56 is a local channel you should be able to get it. Contact Comcast and ask. Otherwise GOOGLE Create TV or channel 56 to get their schedule. I thought comcast had to carry all the local stations so it should have Detroit 56 and the other local stations.

I have COMCAST and it has Create, but not sure it's the same all over the country.

This is what you have to do to get the VCR through the converter box: " the input to the VCR must be connected to the output of the DTV converter box. You must set the tuner in the DTV converter box to the channel you want to record prior to the start of each recording period programmed in the VCR." You have to leave the converter box on to that channel during the recording time.

Beth, go to http://www.tvguide.com/listings and search for your area for the Comcast programs. Search for Georgia Bonesteel. I searched last night and found that the show would be on at 9 PM, just 15 minutes after I did the search. It was a great show, I really enjoyed it.

On my Comcast, it is channel # 242.

The official channel name is WTVS TV Create channel 56.3. (Regular WTVS is channel 56, so this must be their 3rd version.)

Georgia Bonesteel is on Tuesdays and Thursdays - one episode each day, but run 4 times each day:
                            6 am
                            noon
                            6 pm
                            midnight

I will definitely figure out how to watch.

Thanks! Since Simply Quilts left the air, I am so quilting TV starved!

TODAY, Georgia showed some of her lap quilting techniques.... Sew and extend doing your quilting as you go... She made a cute little scalloped pinwheel quilt that interlocked and flipped to the back. I do not think this type of quilt would win awards/ prizes except by family members who are lucky enought to get a home made quilt. I just thought it ingenious the way it is done.

I am going to send the program one letter of complaint... I want more sewing methods done less quickly so I can actually figure out what is going on and lessssss GALLIVANTING AROUND THE WORLD.
