Quilting
How many enjoy the quilting process of making quilts. This is my favorite part of making quilts, picking out the designs is not always easy, I have a carpenters star quilt top I'm not sure of a pattern just yet.
Binding has been a big challenge in the past. It has become a fun part of the process too, though I sew all mine by machine.
I was on ebay the other day,It's like when did the jelly rolls come out or is this something that our binding is called once rolled up. Between noodles and jelly rolls aren't they the same thing,"Jelly Noodle rolls". The jelly rolls could be used for several things.
I found some nice fat quarters that I just had to have! LOL! Thier are some there that sell fabric by the yards. I bought 10 yards of fabric to use for a backing on my carpenters star quilt, price wasn't to bad 58.00. I Don't know for sure if this will work out but I do like the material. I think it may be to buzy for this quilt top. Choosing your backing is a challenge at times too,it can be for me.Tags: None

Episode 201 – Crazy about Stitching
Judith Baker Montano
I Just watched it and this was a great show. Victorian, crazy patch photo quilts, and her painting art work. Beautiful quilts. I Love how Judith showed sewing Ribbon flowers.Got tickled at Ricky knotts comming loose.
I have never tried this before but I think it would add beauty to quilt lables also. The ideas are endless at TQS.

Kathy,
Why did you change your picture?? It was so nice seeing your face!
Anyway, go to http://www.christianlanequilters.com for backings. They have "fat backs". They're wide backings.

Hi. Thank you, I have booked marked the link to look at later,it Looks like a great site.
I like It when you can buy a backing fabric large enough that you don't have to sew several pieces together.
My Carpenter Star is in white/pink shades and the backing I bought is also in pink and white, I think that will be to much pink/white, I don't know yet. I really like the fabric alot though.
Hoping I will come up with a quilting design soon too. I'm still abit puzzled on this one. I think I must be getting alittle more pickier with my quilt designs choices.
I really like the idea that you can change up your quilting designs with different fill in as Alex recommended.
Could quilt in the ditch some, add some sun beams,ect.....just making those choices for each quilt is challenging at times.
I'll get my photo back up "I was just debating my privacy level".

I think I enjoy the peicing most, but the quilting is a VERY VERY close second. I especially love hand quilting, it is so relaxing, and I wish I had the time to do it on every quilt. Unfortunately as an active mother of three under the age of 8 I don't find as much time as I would like to hand quilt. I do enjoy machine quilting and I am getting better at it over time - I think I would enjoy it more if I had a frame for my machine of some kind though - the pulling and tugging kills my upper back.

I am going to switch this up... the most nerve-wracking parts of quilting for me is the first cut in my fabric (will I screw up all this lovely fabric?), followed by the final quilting process (do I have the right design or skill I need for this?).
The best time... looking for that rare find in fabric... for that piece that sings to me.... and then touching it and bringing it home...... But I guess the VERY best time is giving the quilt that I have designed and dreamed of with a special person in mind and seeing their reaction. That is very satisfying.

My most nerve wracking moment is when I've pieced the blocks and I have to put them all together. I hate squaring up-I'm afraid of them not being the same size.
I don't like piecing per se. I like picking out the fabrics. I will create a tornado when I'm going through my stash. I like dreaming of what the quilt will look like when it's done.

It would actually be easier for me to say the parts I don't enjoy so much... binding and labeling... and if its required, putting on a hanging pocket (term escapes me). I'm not a big fan of hand sewing since my hands get so sore and cramp up on me.
I love the whole process though... from finding the perfect fabric or pattern, then selecting the pattern or fabric to go along with it to handing the finished quilt over to someone I know will treasure it immensely - and all things in between.
I get excited when I finish the first block - I race downstairs to show DH and I sit back and admire it for a bit. Then, when I'm putting the blocks together, I get a thrill each time the top gets just a little bit larger.

Each quilt is like reading a good book. You almost hate for it to be over. ("Isn't that the truth")
Through all of our artistic creativeness the challenges of it all is so rewarding in the end. It's funny, when you put that last stitch in it's like I want to do another pieced/hand/applique/binding/ ect.. Looking forward to making another new quilt.

Well said, Kathy AND Judy!
Right now I'm feeling the same about my current project and my KIDS... I know it'll be great when it's done, many folks will rave over it, although some might look too closely at the workmanship & find a fault or two (or many!), the one it's meant for will love it & cherish it, but in the meantime the process is killing me--what was I thinking when I started?--and I really, really hope it will hold up in the wash!!! ops:
the nice thing is that once this quilt is done, I can move on to another...and apply the lessons I've learned. Not so with my boys! I've only got one chance with them, I keep learning lessons that I'll never need again! Dang!

Wow  , the best part of quiltin. Shoppin and feelin the fabric. Takin it out of the bag. Findin just the right pattern. Spendin a day cuttin out the fabric. Piecin and pressin the fabric. :P Lovin the colors of the pieces as they go together. Quiltin your art work. And then puttin on the last piece the bindin. The glow after you have finally finnished your work of art!!!! ( oh no it's done!)
 I would have to say the process of all these pieces goin together is for me "the best part" Debbie
