do you listen to music while quilting and if so what kinds?

i am just sitting here in my quilting room working on a project, and i noticed that i very rarely sit down to work with out music on. we have sirius radio and you can play it online if you have a subsription so i listen to their broadway channel so i can combine my two passions at the same time.

so what about the rest of you?

It's gotta be something smooth so I can relax while I sew. Light rock or alternative stuff. Just turned 50, but I'm still a rock-n-roll baby! In the car it's Nickelback, INXS, and Stevie Ray Vaughn!

I like most forms of music, but when I want to create, I actually prefer instrumentals. That way, I'm not following along or singing; I'm just in a sort of flow. 8)
I have Pandora.com on my computer. I can create a station and pick what artists I want on there. 8)

eileen..I discovered pandora a few months ago from another post on this forum...I love it. I have found so many new artists to add to my mp3 player.
and lucy.. I also love old movies in my sewing room. sometimes I need to look away from what I'm doing and zone out for a minute or two.

I have a little bit of everything on my iPod. My new iMac has a remote control so that's fun. My favorites are upbeat stuff. Sugarland, Van Zant, Kenny Chesney, Oldies Rock from the 60's & 70's.

Okay, we have a great music artist right here on TQS!! Does anyone have Ricky's cds to quilt by? Or to just mellow out? I'm slowly collecting Ricky's books and then will move on to his music. I absolutely LOVE piano music.

I always listen to Country music. In the room where I sew, it's the radio and in the room where I cut and press, it's the TV. Sometimes I'll put the news on the TV. NA

from what i have heard ricky's music is very good but i am a sing along kind of gal. i do listen to country music, the 80's music, classic rock and buffet but the broadway stuff just keeps pulling me back. so the next question would be do you speed up what you are doing if you are listening to faster tempo music or do you try and keep the tempo from affecting how fast you work

lwiniger, I posted about pandora several months ago. It's free and there's nothing to download. That's great for those of us who don't have XM or other paid subscriptions.

I have a variety of artists on my pandora - Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Michael McDonald, Third Day, Jim Brickman, The Shirelles and The Righteous Bros.

I almost always listen to classical music when I'm quilting and I find that I can concentrate for long periods of time and it just seems to go by so quickly. No Sirius or XM radio for me - just a really god local public radio station in Northern Illinois that plays classical music 24 hours a day.

Rachmaninoff, Fauré, Stravinsky, Holst, throw in a little Leonard Cohen, Stan Getz, or Harry Belafonte, and I'm a happy bunny..... Weird mix, I know, but then I don't do boring.

I either have the tv on in the background or listen to a book on my IPOD. That is after I have made my decisions on what fabric and where, and how I am doing the block.
