    Poplin or quilting fabric

    Could someone please help. I recently ordered some organic cotton from the U.S. When it arrived I was disappointed as it turned out to be poplin and a much lighter weight than quilting cotton. The advert described it as organic cotton no mention of poplin. Anyway, my question is will this be suitable for a baby cot blanket? I'm making it for a friend who is giving it to her best friend as a gift so I don't want to proceed with the quilt until I'm sure if the poplin will be suitable for this project.
    Thank you. Looking forward to your input.

    It would be lovely and soft for a baby so I'd say yes. It will possibly wear quicker with washing but it's a gift not commission so I'd go for it.

      Thanks Wendy, wonderful to get someone else's opinion. So I'll go ahead and make a start. Just did'nt want to let anyone down. I'm sure it will be lovely and soft as the fabric has that feel to it.

        I agree. It will feel wonderful to the baby. That is a very fortunate baby.

          Here's an article that might help--> https://monsoonweave.wordpress.com/2014/09/22/lawn-vs-voile-vs-cambric-vs-poplin-what-is-the-difference/

          Recently, I've noticed several well known modern quilters using lawn and voile for quilts.

              Thanks for that input, Nancy. My DIL recently gave mes some 6' - 8' WOF strips (about 60 of them) of Liberty lawn. I was planning to use them for a 'just for me' quilt.

              lol - if that ever happens. My kids are way too fast at having babies and getting married.them

                I recently found this short video (at link below) on how to best handle lawn and voile fabrics in quilts. It will probably be very helpful in your success in using these finer fabrics.

                Good luck and please share photos when you're done.
