    poly/cotton

    Hi All
I have just finished playing with my stash and have some fabrics that i am not sure if they are 100% cotton or poly/cotton blend can someone tell me if there is a way to tell the difference. i seem to think that i need to set fire to it to see if it burns or melts is this right.

I am told to distinquish from 100% cotton and a poly mix... you burn the some threads / fabric.... if it seams to bead or melt then it has poly in it.

I would compare the burning pattern to known fabric 0f 100% cotton. If your questional fabric burns more like the 100% fabric it is more probably 100% cotton.

If I have questionable fabric ... I put those in utility quils for the cabin... it doesn't matter what fabric you use.... it will get abused.

You're on the right track Jenny, I just cut a small piece of the material and set fire to it then blow it out. If the material is cotton the burned edge will be like ash, if it contains polyester the edge will harden like plastic. Mary in MS where the weather is beautiful.
